BARBARIAN KING - CLASH OF CLANS
The Barbarian King
Meet the largest and most fearless of all barbarians! This massive warrior can withstand a ton of damage and will crush anything that stands in his way with his powerful sword. When it comes to defending his turf, he takes his job very seriously and will not let anyone invade his territory without a fight.

The Barbarian King is the very first Hero you get when you reach Town Hall level 7. He's like a super-sized, super-charged Barbarian - bigger, badder, and more impressive than your regular troops.
Once you build the Barbarian King Altar (which costs 5,000 Dark Elixir), he'll come running to join your army automatically. And because he's a hero, he's immortal - you only need to summon him once.
But here's the catch: if he gets hurt or taken down in a battle, he needs to catch some Z's to heal up before he can fight again. The higher his level, the longer he needs to snooze before he's back at full strength. So make sure to keep an eye on his health and give him a break when he needs it!
When the Barbarian King reaches full health, you'll hear a fun jingle!
The Barbarian King is always ready to protect the village, except when he's busy healing after a battle. He guards the area near his platform but will back off if led too far away. If he's healing, his altar will be empty if the village is under attack. Once he targets a troop, he won't let go until either he or the troop is defeated. If he strays from his patrol area after the troop is gone, he'll head back to guard his altar, even if it's already destroyed. Remember, you don't have to defeat the Barbarian King (or any Hero besides the Grand Warden) to earn three stars on a base.
In the Home Village, hero regeneration works like having an "extra life." Once fully healed, the Barbarian King gains two "life bars," each with health equal to his max hitpoints. The first bar is shown next to his level, while the second ("extra life") is denoted by a heart at the end of the first bar, with a "+1" when full.
Any damage taken by the Barbarian King when attacking is first subtracted from the extra life bar, with the regular life bar only being reduced when the extra life bar is fully depleted. If the Barbarian King is defeated, a full life bar will be depleted; in particular, if the extra life bar is full when this occurs, it will be completely depleted without affecting the regular life bar. If the Barbarian King is damaged or defeated when defending, the life bars will be completely unaffected.
In the game, both your regular life bar and your extra life bar regenerate at the same rate. However, your regular life bar will fully regenerate before your extra life bar starts to regenerate. The time it takes for one of the life bars to regenerate is what you see listed in the game. So, if both your life bars are emptied, it will take twice the listed time for both bars to fully regenerate.
In order for the King to join the battle, his regular life bar needs to be completely full. If the life bar isn't full after a battle, the Barbarian King will need to take a nap to recover before he can be used in battle again. The length of his nap will be determined by how much health is missing from the regular life bar.
When you start searching for a Multiplayer opponent, your hero regeneration kicks in right away! So, if you spend some time looking for someone to attack before actually completing the attack, your heroes will start to recover by the time you get back to your village. But be careful! If you cancel the attack by hitting "End Battle" before finishing, your hero regeneration will reset. This is especially noticeable in the top leagues below legend, where you might spend a lot of time searching for opponents.
If you have a Barbarian King, you're in luck! His health is top-notch, making him a great tank for your army. Start by sending him out to draw the defences' attention and then bring in lower health units, such as the Archer Queen, to deal the damage.
In the earlier stages like Town Hall 7-9, consider keeping the Barbarian King inside the base since your other heroes can do some serious damage. Another handy trick is using him for funnelling. His Equipment makes it easy to see where the funnel should be, simplifying your strategy.
As a Hero, the Barbarian King has a special ability that can be used once in every battle. When activated, this ability allows him to heal some of his health. Moreover, with the Hero Equipment he carries, you can enhance this ability with additional effects.
When you first unlock the Barbarian King, he comes equipped with the Barbarian Puppet and Rage Vial. As he levels up, the amount of health he regenerates with his ability also increases. To further boost his abilities, consider Upgrading the Blacksmith to obtain the Earthquake Boots and Vampstache.
If you're feeling lucky, you may also come across Epic Equipment in challenges or occasionally in the Trader's offers for gems. These powerful items can give your Barbarian King even more of an edge in battle.
Strategy
Offensive
The four heroes in your Home Village each play a unique role during raids.
Barbarian King: He's your tank specialist, able to absorb a ton of damage. Use him to create funnels by clearing out buildings outside of Walls. Just be careful of high-DPS defences and watch out for air troops or single-target Inferno Towers. This strategy is often called a "King Walk."
Archer Queen: Your damage specialist, she packs a punch when taking out enemy buildings.
Grand Warden: He's your support specialist, providing buffs to your other troops during battle.
Royal Champion: Your defence specialist, able to take down enemy defences efficiently.
So whether you need a tank, damage, support, or defence, your heroes have got you covered for a successful raid!
One way to use the Barbarian King is as a tank, which means he distracts enemy defences to protect troops with low hitpoints. For example, you can pair him with the Archer Queen - he takes the hits while she deals the damage. This strategy is popular for heroes in air attacks when they don't have a specific role with the main army.
To make the most of the health recovery from his ability, it's best to let your Barbarian King take some hits before activating it. However, if your King finishes a battle with hardly any damage, his ability will automatically activate to restore his health.
Depending on his Hero Equipment, you can use his ability to speed up clearing a base when paired with other Hero Equipment. Keep that in mind for your future battles!
The Barbarian King can be healed by a Healing Spell, a Healer, or the Healing Tome of the Grand Warden. However, since he is a hero, this happens at a rate of 55% of that of normal troops when using a Healing spell or a Healer.
The healing time is the same for both troops and heroes, at 0.3s per healing pulse. Be cautious when the King is near a Bomb Tower or a potential Giant Bomb location. Use the healing ability only if necessary to avoid losing summoned Barbarians to the explosion.
With a higher level Barbarian King, the timing of the Bomb explosion allows some Barbarians to survive. This issue is more critical with the Barbarian Puppet or when the King is close to enemy damage dealers, as the Bomb can severely damage or completely wipe out your damage-dealing units. Stay alert and plan your healing strategy wisely!
Make sure to activate the Barbarian King's ability before he gets targeted by a single target Inferno Tower when using the Barbarian Puppet. This will help the spawned Barbarians distract the Inferno Tower and keep the King alive for longer. If you're not using the Barbarian Puppet, consider equipping the Earthquake Boots to help the King reach the Inferno Tower or the Giant Gauntlet to reduce damage taken from it. Don't forget to equip other Equipment to help destroy the Inferno Tower quickly.
Don't forget to enable "Automatically use Hero Abilities on KO" in the settings. There's no downside to this setting, and it will enhance the King's survivability and damage output. It may also reduce the downtime for the hero's healing, especially in higher Town Halls.
If you often use the Barbarian Puppet, it's a good idea since it will summon Barbarians at the same level as your Laboratory, making them stronger and more effective at destroying buildings and distracting opponents. However, be cautious as the equipment is not very sturdy and can be easily destroyed by traps.
When it comes to Pets, the Barbarian King is usually paired with the Mighty Yak at TH14 or the Phoenix at TH15 and above.
The Mighty Yak is great at breaking walls, which is perfect for the Barbarian King since he can't attack over them. The Yak smashes through walls so the King can reach buildings inside, and also acts as a mini-tank for him.
The Phoenix helps the Barbarian King stay in the fight longer by guaranteeing his survival for a period of time. This is super handy because the King can be defeated mid-ability. Even though defences may retarget between his defeat and revival, he can still deal significant damage and tank any defences that target him.
Some other handy options for Pets are:
Frosty: This little guy can help by weakening defences that are out of reach for the King. Plus, its slow speed means it can hang back easily.
Poison Lizard: Another great choice for staying safe while supporting the King in taking down multiple Heroes simultaneously.
Angry Jelly: A great companion for Root Rider attacks and for distracting high-damage enemies inside the base. Just activate its abilities for maximum impact!
When it comes to improving your Barbarian king's offensive attack, remember that levelling up the king itself is key! Higher levels will benefit the king more than just upgrading equipment. However, having high-level equipment is still important for a strong attack.
Some great Hero Equipment combinations to consider are:
Giant Gauntlet and Rage Vial: This pairing lets the King do massive damage, take less damage, wreck compartments, and improve its tanking potential.
Giant Gauntlet and Earthquake Boots: Use this combo to destroy walls and deal damage in multiple areas.
Rage Vial and Vampstache: With this duo, the King can recover HP and deal damage simultaneously.
Keep these pairings in mind to enhance your Barbarian king's effectiveness in battles! :)
Defensive
Even though he's a powerhouse on offense, the Barbarian King can be a bit vulnerable on defence since he only targets one enemy at a time. To keep him safe, make sure to surround him with defences that can hit multiple targets at once.
For extra protection, consider placing the Altar in the middle of important areas you want to defend. This way, the Barbarian King will naturally patrol around them, keeping a watchful eye on any incoming threats.
While the Barbarian King can't attack flying units, he can still slow them down and distract them from their targets. So even though he can't do damage to aerial units like Dragons, he can buy you precious time to defend against them.
The Barbarian King is pretty smart when it comes to patrolling his area. He won't follow you to the edge of the map like those troops in the Clan Castle might. Unless his altar happens to be near the edge, then he might venture out a bit. If he can't reach his target, he'll back off and find someone else within his patrol area to pick a fight with. And if there's no more enemies around, he'll just go back to his regular patrol.
But here's a fun fact - the Barbarian King is really good at luring attacking troops towards him. Sometimes, these troops will forget about their original target and just go straight for the Barbarian King. This could be a problem if you have him next to something super important like your Town Hall. Those attacking troops might get way too close for comfort!
On the flip side, this ability could actually work in your favour. By drawing enemies towards him, the Barbarian King can direct them right into the line of fire. So depending on the situation, having the Barbarian King around could either be a huge help or a bit of a headache. Just something to keep in mind when planning your defences!
If you have Single-Target Inferno Towers, they're great for taking out enemy Barbarian Kings quickly. Once they ramp up their damage, Kings don't stand a chance! It may lead your opponent to use a Freeze Spell to save their King, but even if they do, the Barbarians summoned by the King will likely overwhelm your Inferno Tower if the King is equipped with the Barbarian Puppet. So, make sure to protect your Inferno Tower with splash damage defences like the Bomb Tower or a Giant Bomb.
Against a Barbarian King
Trouble with the Defensive King? If you're having trouble dealing with a defensive King, try using small troops like Barbarians or Wizards behind a tanking troop. This will help you defeat the King with minimal troop loss.
No Archer Queen or Away from the King? If the base doesn't have an Archer Queen or she's far from the Barbarian King, consider attacking with air troops. Just be sure to avoid buildings that target air troops. You might need to deploy ground troops occasionally to corral the King and keep your air troops safe.
Air Troops to the Rescue Air troops like Balloons and Minions don't have to worry about the Barbarian King too much. He can usually be ignored, but be mindful of him distracting your air troops from important targets like the Town Hall.
Go for the P.E.K.K.A While swarms of troops work well against the Barbarian King, the P.E.K.K.A is also effective against low-level Kings. Give it a try!
The Barbarian King won't stray too far from his altar - he only goes up to 7 tiles away! So, if you place your troops over 7 tiles away, they can attack him without worrying about getting retaliated against. Just be careful - if the Barbarian King moves, your troops might end up in his attack range.
You can protect your troops from his damage by using the Grand Warden's Eternal Tome ability. However, at higher levels, the Barbarian King isn't usually seen as a major threat. You may want to save the ability for dealing with a more heavily defended section of the base or for handling a big threat like the Giga Tesla or Giga Inferno's explosion. It's all about strategy!
Hero Equipment
When the Barbarian King goes on the offensive, he can use two pieces of Hero Equipment from the list below. Each piece changes his abilities and provides extra stat bonuses to help him in battle.
Please note that the Barbarian King does not make use of any Hero Equipment when he's defending.
