THE GRAND WARDEN - CLASH OF CLANS
The Grand Warden
The Grand Warden, a mighty magician, backs up your troops in battle with magical blasts from his staff. He can soar with air troops or stroll over walls to aid any attacking force. When defending, he transforms into a formidable tower.

The Grand Warden is a special unit you can access when you reach Town Hall level 11. He's the third hero you can use in the game, and while he's not the strongest when it comes to physical power or defence, he definitely has his own unique strengths.
One of the cool things about the Grand Warden is that he has a long range and can support your troops in battle. Plus, he can be summoned automatically once you build the Grand Warden Altar, which costs 1,000,000 Elixir. Unlike other Heroes, you can upgrade him using Elixir instead of Dark Elixir.
You can choose to have the Grand Warden in either Air or Ground mode, depending on your strategy. In Air Mode, he'll fly around, while in Ground Mode, he'll walk. And don't worry about Walls getting in his way - he can bypass them no matter what mode he's in. Just keep in mind that if nearby housing spaces are attacking Walls, he'll join in too.
Just like all the other heroes, the Grand Warden only needs to be summoned once in battle. However, if he gets hurt while attacking an enemy village, he'll need some time to regenerate his health. If you attack a village while their Grand Warden is still recovering, the Altar will be empty and the Grand Warden won't be able to defend.
Unlike other heroes, the Grand Warden isn't upgraded in the Laboratory. Instead, he gets upgraded by a Builder.
In the Home Village, the Grand Warden has a unique "extra life" system for regeneration. When fully healed, he'll have two "life bars", each with health equal to his maximum hitpoints. The first life bar is shown next to the Warden's level, while the second (the "extra life") is represented by a heart at the end of the first life bar, with a "+1" when it's full.
Grand Warden's Life Bar Mechanics
When the Grand Warden attacks, any damage taken is first removed from the extra life bar. Only once the extra life bar is empty will the regular life bar start to decrease. If the Grand Warden is defeated, the regular life bar will be fully depleted. If the Grand Warden is attacked with a full extra life bar, the extra life bar will be used up first before the regular life bar is affected.
On the other hand, when the Grand Warden is defending, any damage taken will not affect either life bar.
Both the regular life bar and the extra life bar regenerate at the same speed. The regular life bar will fully regenerate before the extra life bar begins to refill. The regeneration time mentioned in-game refers to the time needed for one of the life bars to fully regenerate. Therefore, it will take twice as long for both life bars to regenerate after both have been depleted.
In order for the Grand Warden to join the battle, his regular life bar needs to be full. If it's not at full health after a battle, he'll need to take a nap to recharge before he can fight again, and the length of his nap will depend on how much health he's missing.
The Hero's health starts to regenerate as soon as you start searching for an opponent in Multiplayer Battles. So, if you take some time searching before actually attacking, some of the regeneration will be done by the time you return to your village. But if you cancel the attack by pressing "End Battle" before finishing, the regeneration will start over. This is especially noticeable in the higher leagues below Legend, where finding opponents can take longer.
The Grand Warden, as a Hero, has a special ability that can be used once in each battle. With his base ability, he can regenerate some of his health. Plus, the Hero Equipment he carries can enhance this ability even more.
When you first unlock him, he comes equipped with the Eternal Tome and Life Gem. And every fifth level he reaches, the health regeneration he gets from using his ability gets a boost. So keep levelling up to make him even more powerful!
The Eternal Tome gives the Grand Warden the power to protect all units around him from harm for a short time. The Life Gem can also boost the health of other units close by.
If the ability hasn't been used yet and the Grand Warden is close to defeat, it will automatically kick in to save the day. You can turn this feature off in the settings if you prefer by disabling "Automatically use Hero Abilities on KO".
This special ability can even work when the Warden is facing a one-shot attack, like from a Seeking Air Mine. He'll activate his ability and survive with just 1 hitpoint left. Amazing, right?
The Rage Gem boosts the damage of nearby attacking units and speeds up the healing of Healers.
Similarly, the Eternal Tome provides regular healing to both himself and all units nearby, functioning like a Heal Spell.
Strategy
Offensive
In raids, the four Home Village heroes each have their own important roles. The Barbarian King is great at soaking up damage as a tank specialist, the Archer Queen deals out massive damage, the Grand Warden offers support, and the Royal Champion focuses on defence.
Because the Grand Warden has lower health and damage, he's better at supporting rather than leading an attack. Make sure to protect him with tank units like Giants, Golems, or the Barbarian King. And in return, the Grand Warden can assist them with his passive abilities.
If you're using an air attack, switch the Grand Warden to Air Mode so he doesn't get hit by ground defences. And if you're using a ground army, switch him to Ground Mode to avoid being targeted by Air Defences. Remember to keep him safe and use his abilities wisely!
Remember to switch your Grand Warden to Air Mode only when you are launching an air attack. Without distraction troops, he is vulnerable to Air Defences and Seeking Air Mines, which can heavily damage or defeat him easily.
If you are using the Air Mode warden alone to bypass strong ground defences, consider deploying Balloons near him to divert any Seeking Air Mines. Make sure to keep him safe from the mines to prevent him from getting hit. Upgrading the Grand Warden to at least level 37 for Town Hall 12 or level 49 for Town Hall 13 will help him withstand attacks from Seeking Air Mines of certain levels.
Watch out for level 5 and higher Seeking Air Mines, as they can instantly take down the Grand Warden regardless of his level. However, a level 6 Seeking Air Mine will leave a level 40 Grand Warden with 30 hitpoints remaining, equipped with the maxed out Life Gem and Healing Tome. Keep these tips in mind to protect your Grand Warden during battles!
To help your troops navigate through the core where the most damage is usually concentrated, try using the Eternal Tome ability nearby. For instance, if you're up against a tough level 5 Giga Tesla or Giga Inferno, consider saving the ability for when the Town Hall explodes, as it can deal significant damage.
On the other hand, it might be more beneficial to use the ability earlier in certain situations. For example, if there are high damaging defenses near the base's exterior, or if your main army can split up effectively. Just keep these strategies in mind and adapt them to your specific battle scenarios.
The Grand Warden is a unique troop that doesn't require funnelling like other troops do. However, it's important to group him with other troops to maximize his abilities. He will stick to the troop with the highest housing space or the largest mass of troops, so keep them close together for the best results.
Just be careful not to bunch them up too tightly, as his aura covers a wide area and clustered troops can take heavy splash damage from defences. This also puts them at risk of being targeted by the Eagle Artillery, so keep them spread out enough to avoid unnecessary casualties.
Optimal Use of Grand Warden's Life Gem
Just a quick tip for you - when you give the Grand Warden's Life Gem to your troops, it works best on those with moderate health levels, like the Balloon or Miner. These troops will get a nice boost in health that's pretty close to the maximum allowed by the Grand Warden's ability.
However, if you try using the Life Gem on low-hitpoint troops like Minions, you'll notice they only get a tiny health increase - not really worth it. On the flip side, high-hitpoint troops like the Golem won't benefit as much either, since their health increase will likely exceed the maximum limit allowed by the Grand Warden. Plus, these beefy troops usually don't need the extra health anyway.
When you're using high-hitpoint troops, consider using the Apprentice Warden instead of the Life Gem. The Apprentice Warden has no health limit cap, which can significantly boost the health of your larger troops. Plus, if you choose the Apprentice Warden, the Life Gem will be replaced by either the Rage Gem, Healing Tome, or Fireball.
Did you know that the Grand Warden has the longest range of any troop or hero in the game? He can even outshoot the Wizard Tower, Bomb Tower, Archer Tower on Fast Attack mode, or Hidden Tesla.
And don't forget about the Super Archer! While it has a projectile range of 12, its targeting range is only 6.
When the Grand Warden is in the right spot, he can take out an enemy Barbarian King and even an Archer Queen without getting attacked. Dealing with an Archer Queen is trickier because she has a bigger attack range, moves faster, and can hit targets from afar, unlike the King.
Once the Grand Warden is levelled up, you can pair him with Healers for a Warden Walk, similar to a Queen Walk in usefulness. The Warden Walk is generally safer because of his longer reach, allowing him to take out buildings from a distance. However, he doesn't dish out as much damage, so it might take longer to create a solid funnel or destroy key buildings.
If the Grand Warden gets his hands on the Rage Gem, he'll have the power to take down buildings in a flash, making Warden Walks even speedier! Plus, you can use his awesome AI to your advantage by guiding him in a specific direction. Try deploying a few Balloons near a defence to lead him towards attacking it. You can also turn a Warden Walk into a smash-style attack by placing your main forces in his path. It's a cool trick that can really amp up your strategy!
If you spot a Seeking Air Mine heading towards your Grand Warden while in Air Mode, make sure to activate his Eternal Tome ability if it's still available. Acting fast will allow him to avoid damage entirely. If you miss the timing, he will suffer heavy damage and may automatically use his ability (if the setting is enabled), but he will be left with only 1 HP and extremely vulnerable. This puts you at a disadvantage, especially if he doesn't have the Eternal Tome equipped. Remember to be quick on your feet and keep an eye out for those pesky air mines!
The Grand Warden has plenty of great Pet options to choose from that work really well with him. One of the top picks for the Grand Warden is the Electro Owl, especially when in air mode. The Owl not only boosts the Warden's damage, but also stays airborne so it won't get knocked out, acting as a helpful troop to keep him safe. In ground mode, the Owl's extra damage can really speed up Warden Walks, and unlike ground Pets, won't distract Healers from their job of keeping the Warden healthy. So, if you're looking for a reliable sidekick for your Grand Warden, the Electro Owl is a solid choice!
Looking for some alternative strategies for Town Hall 15 attacks? Consider using the Poison Lizard instead of the Owl for some targeted damage on single enemies, plus it can team up with the Warden to take down enemy troops. Pairing Frosty with the Warden can also slow down defences for extra support.
And don't forget about the Unicorn! It's a great option for healing the Warden, especially during a Warden Walk. While it's commonly paired with the Archer Queen, the Unicorn can step in if the Queen is busy or you want to mix things up.
Lastly, the Diggy can stun defences to help increase your attack's success rate. Just make sure he follows the main army targeting the defences, especially those pesky Root Riders.
Try out these combinations and see how they can elevate your Town Hall 15 gameplay!
There are so many great choices for the Grand Warden's Hero Equipment!
Double Tome: Combine the Eternal Tome with the Healing Tome for extra healing and protection. Perfect for Super Hog Riders and Root Riders!
Rage Vial and Eternal Tome: Boost your damage, especially when attacking the core of the base in a Smash-style assault.
Fireball and Rage Vial: For maximum damage output, ideal for Warden Charges.
Fireball and Eternal Tome: Ensure high destruction and invincibility, great for Super Archer Blimps.
Healing Tome and Rage Vial: Get both healing and damage amplification simultaneously, improving survivability and offensive power. Just remember, no invincibility with this combo.
Friendly Defence Tips
When facing an enemy Grand Warden, it's important to adjust your defences accordingly. Try setting your Inferno Towers to multi-target mode to cover more ground, as the Grand Warden tends to hang back behind other troops, making it harder for defences to reach him.
For added effectiveness, consider utilizing Scattershots at higher levels, as they have a talent for dealing damage to units behind the main target.
To strengthen your defence even further, place the Grand Warden alongside other heroes and the Clan Castle. This setup can provide a significant boost to hitpoints for all defensive units.
Keep in mind that the Grand Warden in defence mode is immune to Headhunters, as he is seen as a defensive building. However, this also leaves him vulnerable to troops that target defences. Stay vigilant and adapt your defences accordingly!
Hero Equipment
When the Grand Warden goes on the attack, he can choose two awesome pieces of Hero Equipment from the selection below. These items will not only change his abilities but also give him some extra stat bonuses.
However, when the Grand Warden is on defence, he doesn't use any Hero Equipment.
