- I Got Banned From Evony TKR on Reddit | What Happened & Next Steps!
I Got Banned on Evony Welcome back to Empire Build Academy ! I’m Favian, and today I’m sharing the story of how I got banned from the Evony TKR subreddit. If you enjoy this type of content—covering mobile war strategy games like Evony, Rise of Kingdoms, and Guns of Glory—please subscribe to my channel and visit empirebuildacademy.com for more guides. Let’s dive into what happened! The Evony TKR Reddit Community The Evony TKR subreddit is an amazing resource for players, offering a space to ask questions, share tips, and discuss everything Evony-related. From spiritual beast queries to game-freezing glitches, it’s a hub of valuable advice. Unfortunately, I can no longer participate due to a ban, though I can still read posts. How I Got Banned My ban stemmed from a misunderstanding about a post I made. I created a “nine-step process to dominate the battle” guide, covering beginner tips, construction, research, troops, heroes, defense, attack, and game events. I shared this on the Evony TKR subreddit, linking to my YouTube channel and website. My intent was to help players, not to sell anything. However, the moderators interpreted my post as an attempt to promote a paid service, which violates subreddit rules. The post was removed, and I received a ban notice: “You’re currently banned from this community and can’t comment on posts.” Despite my explanations that I wasn’t selling anything, my appeals were ignored. My Reflection I understand why the moderators acted—my “nine-step process” title and website link could have been misconstrued as a sales pitch. Looking back, I should have been more careful with wording and considered how it might appear. I hold no grudge against the Evony TKR team; it was an honest mistake on my part. What I’m Doing Next Though I can’t post or comment anymore, I still value the subreddit’s insights. I’ll continue reading to stay informed while focusing on my YouTube videos and website. Building empirebuildacademy.com is a labor of love—I design and update it myself, learning as I go. Your support through subscriptions and likes helps me keep going! Lessons for the Community This experience taught me to be mindful of how content is presented online. The Evony TKR community remains a great place for advice, like tips on raising monarch levels or fixing glitches. If you’ve faced similar bans or have thoughts on my situation, I’d love to hear them! Engage with Me Do you agree with the ban decision? Should I have avoided the “nine-step process” title? Share your opinions in the comments! - Evony New Wall General Zho Yu 2025: Is It Worth the Cost?
New Wall General Zhou You Hey everyone, it’s Favian from Empire Build Academy! If you’ve noticed the new wall general, Zhou Yu (or Zuyu—pronunciation unclear), in Evony: The King's Return, you’re not alone. I’m thrilled to see a new wall general after a long wait, but the 16,000 cost has me rethinking my strategy. Let’s break it down! Welcome to Empire Build Academy New to the channel? I’m Favian, your go-to for mobile strategy game guides, covering Evony, Rise of Kingdoms, Guns of Glory, and more. Expect content on newer games soon! If you enjoy this, please subscribe—it boosts my reach. Today, we’re tackling the hype around Zho Yu and its steep price tag. The Long Wait for a Wall General I’ve been vocal in communities and videos about needing a new wall general. Seeing Zho Yu, released on August 8, 2025, via the historic general summoning, got me excited—until I saw the catch. Alongside Zho Yu, a new ground general, Gayo Changong, dropped. His stats are solid: Base Skills : 55% ground troop attack/defense, 40% HP when leading. Ascensions : Up to 25% attack/defense and 8% march size at 5 stars. Specialties : Boosts like 5% ground troop attack. However, he doesn’t outshine top generals, and I’m holding out for another Isaac Brock (last seen 16 months ago). Zho Yu: The Paywall Challenge Zho Yu’s special skill shines with 40% in-city range troop and siege machine attack, plus 20% ground/mounted troop defense and HP. Ascensions add more value, but he’s locked behind the Alliance Carnival’s Sword of Justice event. You need 16 redeem chances and 1,200 shields, requiring rare gold helmet packs at $19.99 each. That’s a potential $450 for one copy or $7,200–$18,000 to awaken, depending on event pacing. Community Reactions Reddit’s buzzing. Users call it a “whale territory” move, with estimates ranging from $17,000–$18,000 for a single event grab. Spreading costs over multiple events lowers it but delays ascension. Comments highlight: Great synergy with Brock. Insane pricing for a single general. My Take and Strategy As a mid-coiner (around £2,000 spent over two years), I rank 34th on my server (9.6B–15.1B power leaders show the spending gap). I use premium general tokens (77 saved, aiming for 90) for affordable upgrades like the Sulis Wishing Pool. Zho Yu’s paywall feels excessive—$18,000 is mortgage territory for me! I’ll stick to historic summoning for war generals. Future Hopes and Content With K50 looming, I’d love a free-to-play or mid-coiner-friendly wall general in the tavern (e.g., Queen Buudaca may lag behind). Share your thoughts in the comments—will you chase Zho Yu? Know a whale who will? Nine-Step Project Update Yesterday, I released an Evony buildings guide (step 2). Upcoming: Research Guide : Quick and simple. Troops, Heroes, Defense, Attack : More detailed. Events Guide : Planning a comprehensive video. FAQ Guide : Compiling questions for YouTube and empirebuildacademy.com. Check the site for all guides and watch for a new forum feature! Final Thoughts Zho Yu’s a dream general, but the cost is wild. I’m holding out for a fairer option. Let me know your plans—see you in the next video! Keywords: Evony Zho Yu 2025, new wall general, Evony strategy guide, Empire Build Academy, Alliance Carnival, premium general tokens.
- Evony Wall General Guide 2025: Should You Replace Queen Boudica with Mouri Motonari?
Who Should I Pick on Evony? Welcome to Empire Build Academy! I’m Favian, and today I’m diving into a hot topic in Evony: The King's Return—whether to use Mouri Motonari as a war general to replace Queen Boudica. Let’s explore some expert advice and community feedback! About Empire Build Academy New here? I’m Favian, creating guides for mobile strategy games like Evony, Rise of Kingdoms, and Guns of Glory, with more content on newer titles coming soon. If you love this, please subscribe—it really helps my channel grow! The Mouri Motonari Debate In a recent video, I discussed using Mouri Motonari as a war general instead of Queen Boudica. An alliance member, Jepp from server 1429 (coords: 06480434), offered valuable insight. He warned against using a mounted general on the wall, noting that gear contributes 90%+ to defense math. Defense reports show T1 cavalry and archers do most of the killing, so buffing them with the same gear as Boudica has minimal impact. Jepp suggests: Main Wall General : Use an ascended ground general (e.g., Zhang Fey with Algernon Sydney as assistant) for better results without gear changes. Assistant Wall General : Pair with someone buffing archers and siege for balanced troop support. This approach boosts higher-tier ground and ranged troops, as T1 cavalry are often ghosted or killed by archers. Community Feedback I polled Evony players across kingdoms with the question: Who’s the ideal wall general for a general-leads-the-army role (mounted or ground)? Here’s what I found: Steven : Popular for tanking siege damage in big rallies (e.g., Tigerclaw’s base—contact him for tips). Troop-Specific Options : Siege : Champlain, Maurice de Saxe Range : Godfrey, Subutai, James Cook, Gonzalo. Cavalry : Hakan, Cheng Yaojin, Li Naomasa (Boudica still tops for cavs). Ground : Elise, Maria Carolina, Zhang Fey (Elise leans toward attack). Alternative Strategies : Jadwiga with William Marshall (soon Isaac Brock) for covenant benefits. Leonidas as a ground/mounted option from the tavern. Low-level players use regular generals, but mid/upper-tier players avoid this due to buff limitations (works only if “general leads the army,” not “leads to attack”). Troop Count Focus : Boudica works with T1 traps, but ground generals counter archers/siege better post-K40. Well-Rounded Picks : Leo III and George Dewey are favored. Amenaday with Pantheon Axe (15% enemy attack debuff across six pieces) stacks debuffs (e.g., 135% with eight sub-cities), outshining Zachary Taylor due to rarity (max three copies seen). My Current Setup and Thoughts This sparked my interest in optimizing defense. I currently use Queen Boudica (5-star ascended) with Isaac Brock as assistant. Mouri Motonari offers 55% mounted attack/defense and 35% ground/mounted HP, but it’s weak for T1 troops without flat refines—better for higher tiers. With 70 premium general tokens saved, I’m torn: Options : Mounted, ground, range, or siege general for T1 defense? Wait or Act? : Should I hold for a new wall general (e.g., Isaac Brock was the last, 16 months ago—K50 might bring one)? Alternative : Use tokens for a PvP attack general instead? My sub-city generals sport Partheon Axe, stacking 18% enemy attack debuffs (108% across six), plus ground defense buffs (33%). Refining is costly, so progress is slow. Your Input Needed I’m close to using those 70 tokens for a 5-star ascension. What would you pick? Share in the comments or add me on Evony (BHG, server 1429, coords: 06480434) for more discussions. How can I enhance my defense further? Wait for a wall general or go attack-focused? I’d love your expertise! - Evony Huns Invasion Event Guide 2025: How to Win Big
A Guide to Huns Invasion on Evony Welcome to Empire Build Academy! I’m Favian, and today I’m bringing you a quick guide to mastering the Huns Invasion event in Evony: The King's Return. If you’re new here, welcome! I cover mobile strategy games with in-depth guides, and subscribing supports my channel. Visit empirebuildacademy.com for blog versions of my videos, including Evony content (still growing—check the TBA section!). Let’s dive into this event. What is the Huns Invasion Event? The Huns Invasion is a competitive event in Evony I’ve been eager to explore. After researching websites and videos (I’m no expert!), I’ve compiled tips to help you succeed. This guide breaks down strategies to maximize rewards, playable on the PC version (layouts may differ on mobile). Event Overview Access it via the Event Center under “Competition.” The battlefield features five difficulty levels—Easy, Normal, Hard, Nightmare, and Hell—unlocked by keep level and power. Higher difficulties yield better rewards. You get two daily entries (buy more with gems) and can form a six-player team with alliance members, friends, or auto-match players (prepare within 10 seconds or get kicked). Rewards Breakdown Monarch Ranking Rewards: Server-wide, top 100 scores (e.g., 109,000+ for entry) offer big prizes. Stage Clear Rewards: Earn barbarian flags (e.g., 800 for Hell stage 10) to spend in the battlefield shop. Items include civilization scroll fragment chests (30 fragments needed), crimson crystals, and dragon coins. Lower-tier purchases may outpace the slow grind for scrolls. Buffs and Packs Ancestral Blessing ($9.99) : 5k gems x 12, 60k gems total, 100 barbarian flags, and daily rewards over 3 days. Battlefield Buffs : Upgrade runes (e.g., Critical Edge to level 9 with 74,000 primordial crystals from ancestral chests) or buy buffs up to level 5 (312,000 gems)—optional for top scores. Strategies to Win Difficulty and Team Matching Easy to Hard (Levels 15-25) : Straightforward with 5-10 billion power. Nightmare and Hell : Need 30 billion+ power. Use “Match” to join strong teams—check powers (e.g., 10.3 billion isn’t enough). Exit and retry for better matches. Team Setup : Auto-match or invite friends. Mixed marches (range, ground, mounted) work for higher levels; siege excels for points. Rally and Scoring Tips Siege Marches : Send full siege marches to top scores—siege attacks first. I sent minimal siege (250k of 542k) and hit second place, proving its edge. Stage Mechanics : 10 stages, one Hun camp per stage (plus raiders on stages 2, 6, 10 for extra flags). Defeat the camp to advance; raiders are optional. Rally times (1-5 minutes) can be speed-attacked when ready. Five-minute stage limit. Troop Notes : Killed troops heal post-event; generals need shrine revival. No mid-event healing. Buff Selection Post-stage, pick one of three buffs (e.g., team buffs for fairness). These stack, so early choices matter. I’ll test this on Normal with full buffs off-screen to compare. My Experience I joined an Easy match (9.5 billion power) with minimal siege, landing second despite incomplete marches. Raiders added flags, and buffs (e.g., 23% critical edge) helped. Top players like Tom Dwan (full siege) dominated. I reset my rally preset to focus on siege, showing how to adapt marches (e.g., 227k siege total—low for my keep). Additional Tips March Capacity and Buffs: Add march size and troop attack/defense buffs (e.g., 1-hour boosts) pre-event—unclear if they count, so use them anyway. Preparation: Ensure no wounded troops and max buffs before matching. Final Thoughts Huns Invasion rewards effort, but top ranks need strong teams and siege focus. I’ve missed details—share them in the comments! I’ll update this as a blog post on empirebuildacademy.com and cross-check Reddit. Thanks for watching—subscribe for more Evony guides soon! - Evony: Maximize Your Daily Chances – Ultimate Guide 2025
Use Up All Your Chances on Evony Evony: Maximize Your Daily Chances – Ultimate Guide 2025 Welcome to Empire Build Academy! I’m Favian, and today I’m sharing a quick guide on how to use all your daily chances in Evony: The King's Return to boost your progress. If you’re new here, welcome! I create detailed guides for mobile war strategy games and am always expanding my content. Check out my website, empirebuildacademy.com, where this video is available as a blog post, alongside my nine-step process breaking down Evony into manageable stages. Why Using All Your Chances Matters I noticed a missed opportunity today while patrolling on the PC version (layout may differ on mobile). I’d been casually refreshing for speed-ups and stopping when tasks turned blue, but the info tab revealed a mistake. Each activity offers 10 daily chances with rare rewards—like the super safe resource chest (0.08% chance, yet I’ve won it twice!). Using all chances daily could net you 100 resources for 30 gems, making it worth the effort. Key Activities to Use Your Chances 1. Patrol How to Do It : Access via the patrol task, refresh, and use all 10 chances. Rewards: Includes the super safe resource chest—keep clicking even if odds seem low! 2. Advanced Refining What It Is : Unlock with four gold-refined civilization equipment pieces (e.g., Queen Buudaca’s gear). How to Do It : Go to the Wonder, select advanced refine, and use 50 daily chances with refine stones (gold cost seems static, possibly a bug). Benefits : Boosts buffs (e.g., 18.5% all troops attack at level 33) across equipment. 3. Crazy Eggs Discovery : A daily bonus attempt via the hammer icon. How to Use : Clear eggs with a 4-minute cooldown, then use the lucky hammer for an extra go (e.g., skip another 4 hours if forgotten). Tip : Don’t skip this—consistent use adds up! 4. Produce Material Often Overlooked : Check this section daily to maximize resource output. Action : Ensure you’re producing materials regularly. 5. Champions Importance : Level 18-19 champions (e.g., Ariadne) offer buffs (60% defense/HP) and items. How to Use : Complete 15 daily interactions and 10x greet for premium generals (e.g., 73 found in items) and gems. Value : Daily engagement unlocks rare rewards beyond buffs. 6. Event Center and Giants’ Wisdom Temple Tasks : Use chances for gathering and monster hunting. Tip : Even without red icons (e.g., Golden Refine), check for unclaimed rewards. Additional Tips Item Source : Many premium generals in my inventory came from champions, proving daily effort pays off. Consistency : Use all chances across patrols, refining, eggs, and events to avoid missing out. Final Thoughts This quick guide highlights underused chances in Evony. I may have missed some—let me know in the comments! I’ll update this as a blog post on empirebuildacademy.com. If you enjoy this content, subscribe—it really helps! See you in the next video soon. Gems Purchase Reward Optimization Improvement: Rewards from limited-time promotion gems purchases (e.g., weekend events) now auto-deliver to your inventory, simplifying the process. 2. New Ideal Land Ornament Golden Road: A dazzling, luxurious paving (30-piece limit, expandable in future updates) purchasable with gems. Enhances your ideal land’s visual appeal. 3. Ongoing Events Heavenly Fire Ceremony: Includes package sales, King’s Party, Sun City Collection, War of Divine Succession, Ode to Egypt, and Historic General Summoning (featuring Hatchup and Armos—see my prior video). New Monster : The Serpopard (pronunciation TBD) offers decent rewards, likely sparking rallies—join in! War of Divine Succession : Unlocks rewards (e.g., Heavenly Fire Chest, Gaze of Radiance) as server Chaos brand contributions hit targets (currently over 6 million). Use 50 daily attempts in story mode for extra gains. Heavenly Fire Shop : Offers Mystic Gold Dagger (for Ode to Egypt), Gaze of Radiance, and Heavenly Fire Chest (potential epic general drop). Ode to Egypt : Summon Armos with kills or gathering, though I struck out—packages boost attempts. Share Gems : Light fireworks for rewards, including new decorations like Thieves Divinity. Ranger Night Order : Convert tasks to gold for quick dispatch and claim later; exchange excess resources strategically. Compose Emblem : Collect fragments for a 15-box reward set, with the best drop at box 15. Blessing of Palace : Daily wish blessings cheapen high-level refining. Auction House and Hypnos Dream : Open crystals for rewards (my first try flopped, but level 11 with a free chance showed promise—aim for 30). Fishing Event : Skippable for me (boring, decent rewards), but try it if idle. Feasting Rivalry : Improved banquet table visibility. Grace of Star Trail : Spin with coins for Starlet Tickets (40 unlock a premium general) or gold drops—claim before the event ends. Giants’ Wisdom Temple : Daily monster kill attempts (buy packages if needed). Teared Monet Competition, Weekend Purchase, Historic City Searching : Standard events. Competitions : Huns Invasion, Storm Ruins Battlefield, Alliance Duel, and Arctic Barbarians (join alliance chats for barbarian attacks) continue. Auto Hunt Note I’ve disabled auto-hunt due to rapid stamina drain from gathering troops—manage manually for now. Final Thoughts Update 5.06.0 enhances convenience and aesthetics, with the Heavenly Fire Ceremony offering fresh challenges. Are you chasing Hatchup (25% march size, decent but not top-tier) or waiting for better? Join the Revelation of Horus event—link in the video description. Share your thoughts in the comments, subscribe for more, and I’ll see you soon. Thanks for watching! - The Ultimate March Speed Guide on Evony
March Speed on Evony Welcome to Empire Build Academy! I’m Favian, and today I’m excited to share the Evony March Speed Guide , recorded on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 03:04 PM BST. March speed is a critical yet often overlooked aspect of Evony: The King's Return . If you’re new here, welcome! I create mobile strategy game guides and follow a nine-step process across titles like Evony. Subscribe for more, and visit empirebuildacademy.com for additional resources, including current Horus event answers (listed alphabetically and in a table). Why March Speed Matters March speed determines how quickly your troops move for gathering, monster attacks, or rallies. For beginners in active alliances, catching up to faster rally leaders is key to joining multiple events. I’ve neglected this before—possibly a mistake—but let’s optimize it now! Exploring March Speed Boosts Let’s dive into the game (PC version, similar to mobile) and examine generals, equipment, and more. Generals for March Speed Access : Go to Tavern > Recruit > Portraits > Administration (gatherers/monster hunters). Key Options : Spartacus : +75% march speed to monsters (0.38% tavern draw chance, though oddly absent from some lists—comment if you know why!). Theodora : +30% ground/mounted troop attack, +10% double item drop (not in tavern). Baibars : +25% double drop (0.38% chance). Nathaniel : -25% stamina cost (0.38% chance). Cleopatra : +20% double drop (0.38% chance). Tip : Check refresh probability in Tavern to plan draws. Research Boosts Military Research : Tracing : +70% march speed to monsters (20/20). Advanced Compass : +70% march speed. Raid : +30% march speed (20/20). Advanced Raid : Additional march speed. Note : Military Academy may offer more at higher levels—explore if advanced. Equipment Enhancements Forge > Craft : Achaemenidae Spear : +45% march speed to monsters (up to 60% maxed). Fearless Dragon Boots : +34% march speed (refinable). Dragon Spear : +40% march speed to monsters. Refines : E.g., Edax or Amenaday Axe offer +6.67% march speed refine—check all gear (yellow/gold may vary). Strategy : Focus on monster-specific gear and refine for max gains. Skill Books Options (via general skills) : March Speed : +25% march speed. Monster March Speed : +45% to monsters. Luck : +18% double item drop. Combinations : Theodora (Main) + Nathaniel (Assist) : 28% double drop, 25% march speed, 45% monster march speed, 25% stamina reduction. Baibars (Main) + Nathaniel (Assist) : 25% double drop, 25% march speed, 45% monster march speed, 25% stamina reduction. Tip : Match skills to your focus (speed vs. drops). Additional Boosts Rally Spot : Duty general (e.g., Toyotomi Hideyoshi) +5% march size, +20% march speed. Talents : +50% march speed (e.g., Courage Horn/Justice Horn) and monster-specific boosts. Spiritual Beasts & Dragons : - Thunder Scorpion : +march speed (unlocked later). - Bird of Hurricane : +double drop (I have this). - Fafnir (Dragon) : +march speed via Dragon Guard. Civilization Equipment : Tutankhamun Dagger +75% march speed to monsters. Note : Max talent trees and beasts for optimal results. Community Input I’ve cross-checked Reddit, but I may have missed something. Share your march speed tips in the comments—correct me, add details, or suggest overlooked methods. This guide will be blogged at empirebuildacademy.com with your input. Final Thoughts March speed is vital for rally participation and efficiency. Combine generals (e.g., Spartacus), gear (e.g., Amenaday Spear), research, and talents for the best boost. If you enjoy this, subscribe, and I’ll see you in the next video soon. Thanks for watching! - The Best Ranged Generals on Evony
Discover the best ranged generals in Evony and learn how to strategically use them in battle to dominate the game. The best ranged generals on Evony Recommended Ranged Generals for Marching and Rallying in Evony When building a strong ranged march or leading rallies in Evony, your choice of general is critical. Below, I’ve outlined my top picks for marching and rallying, followed by budget-friendly options for free-to-play (F2P) or low-spending players, and a special mention worth considering. These recommendations factor in effectiveness, accessibility, and the effort required to ascend them to red star levels. Top Picks for Marching and Rallying For players willing to invest time or money, these generals excel at leading ranged marches or rallies: Algernon Sidney Algernon Sidney Ranged General Evony Why He’s Great : Algernon brings strong ranged attack buffs and solid march size increases, making him a standout for offensive PvP marches. His skill set is well-suited for big battles. Best Use : Main general for Server vs. Server (SvS) or rallying bosses. Check out the full profile for Algernon Sidney in Evony Ad Play games and earn cash with Swagbucks Ragnar Lodbrok Ragnar Ranged General Evony Why He’s Great : Ragnar offers a hefty ranged attack boost paired with durability buffs, ideal for sustained engagements. His Viking flair adds flavor to his power. Best Use : Leading rallies or attacking high-level targets. Check out the full profile for Ragnar on Evony Merlin Merlin Ranged General Evony Why He’s Great : A premium option with excellent ranged attack buffs and unique bonuses, Merlin shines in large-scale marches. He’s harder to obtain but worth it for coiners. Best Use : Rally lead or heavy PvP marches. Check out the full profile for Merlin on Evony Marcus Agrippa Marcus Agrippa Ranged General Evony Why He’s Great : Agrippa balances ranged attack with versatility, making him a reliable pick for both rallies and solo marches. He’s accessible via events and as of 28th Feb 2025 he is still available. Best Use : Flexible march leader for mid-to-high spenders. Check out the full profile for Marcus Agrippa on Evony Ad Play games and earn cash with Swagbucks Honorable Mention : Sigurd Why He’s Notable : Sigurd offers impressive ranged attack buffs and decent all-around stats, but he’s tough to acquire and even harder to ascend to red stars due to limited availability. Recommendation : Use him as an assistant rather than a main general. His buffs can enhance a primary leader without the heavy investment needed to max him out. Check out the full profile for Sigurd on Evony Best Picks for F2P or Low Spenders For players who don’t want to break the bank, these generals are easier to obtain and ascend: Marcus Agrippa Accessibility : Available via the Trial of Knights event (Blood of Ares consuming return event) as of February 28, 2025—check current events! Why He’s Great : Strong ranged attack buffs and achievable red star 5 status without heavy spending. A top pick for budget players. Louis IX Accessibility : Also available through Trial of Knights as of February 28th, 2025. Like Agrippa, confirm his status in-game now. Why He’s Great : Offers solid ranged buffs and is relatively easy to ascend compared to premium generals. Perfect for F2P progression. Check out the full profile for Louis IX on Evony Elektra Accessibility : Found at Relics, making her a consistent F2P option. Why She’s Great : Elektra’s ranged attack buffs (15% base, 20% with a dragon) and high base stats make her a standout. She’s far easier to red star than event-locked generals, saving you cash for other troop types. Why These Three? : For F2P or low spenders, getting a general to red star 5 is a game-changer, and these options don’t require emptying your wallet. Spending big to ascend premium ranged generals often isn’t worth it—use that money to boost generals for mounted, ground, or siege troops instead. Check out the full profile for Elektra on Evony Ad Play games and earn cash with Swagbucks Special Mention : Franz Joseph I Why He’s Unique : Franz Joseph I falls slightly behind the top-tier marching generals in raw attack buffs (think 2nd-tier power), but he’s still very effective. His standout feature? He retains full strength when reinforcing an ally’s castle, unlike many higher-ranked generals whose buffs weaken in that role. Best Use : A hybrid pick for players who march aggressively but also reinforce teammates often. Consideration : If you value flexibility over max attack output, he’s a gem. Check out the full profile for Franz Joesph I on Evony Final Thoughts For marching and rallying, Algernon Sidney and Ragnar lead the pack if you can snag them, with Merlin, Marcus Agrippa, Douglas, and Mihai close behind for premium players. Sigurd is better as an assistant due to his rarity. F2P or low spenders should prioritize Marcus Agrippa, Louis IX, and Elektra—they’re accessible and cost-effective to max out. And don’t sleep on Franz Joseph I if you want a reinforcing ace up your sleeve. As of February 28, 2025, event availability these are still available, also double-check in-game options for Agrippa and Louis IX. Focus on what fits your budget and playstyle—ranged dominance is within reach either way! The Best Ranged Generals on Evony - Full Transcript Best Ranged Generals in Evony : Top Picks for 2025 Welcome back to the Empire Build Academy! I’m Favian, and today we’re diving into the best ranged generals in Evony: The King’s Return. Ranged troops are a cornerstone of many armies, and choosing the right generals can make or break your battle strategy. In this blog post, we’ll rank the top ranged generals, highlight their buffs, and discuss optimal pairings, with a special focus on free-to-play (F2P) options. Note that this guide temporarily excludes the new generals Brian Boru and Arthur Wellesley, but I’ll update my Empire Build Academy website soon with their details. Let’s get started! Why Ranged Generals Matter Ranged generals enhance your archers and siege machines, boosting attack, defense, HP, and march size to dominate in PvP, PvE, and alliance wars. Selecting the right general and pairing them with a complementary assistant can amplify these buffs, giving you a significant edge. We’ll explore the top generals available through the Tavern (Recruit > Portraits > Ranged), focusing on Europe and Other regions, where the best options reside. Top 5 Ranged Generals (Excluding Brian Boru and Arthur Wellesley) Here’s a detailed ranking of the best ranged generals in Evony, based on their buffs and total effectiveness. Franz Joseph I (Europe) Buffs : Ranged troop attack : +50% Ranged troop and siege machine defense and HP : +40% Total buff : Attack 442%, Defense 419%, HP 378%, March 34% = 1,233% Why He’s Great : Franz Joseph’s 50% attack boost and robust defense/HP buffs make him a close second to Merlin. His higher march size (34%) is ideal for larger armies. Availability : Premium General Tokens Best Pairing : With Merlin or Ragnar. Ragnar (Others) Buffs : Ranged troop attack and defense : +45% Ranged troop and siege machine HP : +35% (requires Spiritual Beast to activate) Total buff : Varies based on Spiritual Beast, but ranks third overall. Key Note : Ragnar’s HP buff depends on bringing a Spiritual Beast, which adds a condition but doesn’t detract from his strong base stats. Availability : Tavern (Others > Ranged). Best Pairing : With Sigurd or Merlin. Algernon Sidney (Europe) Buffs : Ranged troop attack and defense : +45% Ranged troop and siege machine HP : +30% Total buff : Attack 478%, Defense 340%, HP 375%, March 44% = 1,193% Why He’s Solid : Algernon’s high attack and march size (44%) make him a great choice for aggressive ranged strategies, though his defense is slightly lower than others. Availability : Premium General (Europe > Ranged). Best Pairing : With Merlin. Marcus Agrippa (Europe, F2P Option) Buffs : Ranged troop attack : +40% Ranged troop and siege machine defense and HP : +30% Total buff : Attack 446%, Defense 411%, HP 334%, March 20% = 1,191% Why He’s Notable : Marcus Agrippa is a standout F2P option, currently available in the Trial of Knights event. By ascending generals (e.g., Elektra) during this event, you can earn points to trade for Marcus. His buffs are competitive, especially at 5-star ascension, which I’ve achieved. Availability : Trial of Knights event and premium general tokens Caution : Marcus has been in the event for a while, and there’s uncertainty about his continued availability. Start ascending now, but be prepared for potential changes. Best Pairing : With Ragnar. Honorable Mentions : Brian Boru and Arthur Wellesley While not fully ranked here, the two new generals** deserve a quick spotlight: Brian Boru (Europe) : Buffs: Ranged attack and HP +50%, ranged and siege defense +35%. Impression : One of the best ranged generals, potentially rivaling Merlin. I’ll cover him in a future video and update the rankings. Availability : Premium General Tokens Arthur Wellesley (Europe) : Buffs : Ranged and siege attack +40%, ranged defense and HP +25%. Impression : Strong but slightly less impressive than Brian Boru. Full details coming soon. Availability : Premium General Tokens Best Assistant Pairings Pairing a main general with an assistant general can significantly boost buffs significantly. Here are the top pairings for our ranked generals: Merlin + Ragnar (Assistant) : Attack : 590%, Defense: 511%, HP%: +472%, Total Buff: 1,572% Why : The highest total buff combo, leveraging Merlin’s versatility and Ragnar’s high attack. Ragnar + Sigurd (Assistant) : Attack : 602%, Defense: 469%, HP%: +479%, Total Buff: 1,550% Why : Sigurd’s attack focus complements Ragnar’s balanced stats, ideal for aggressive playstyles. Merlin + Franz Joseph I (Assistant) : Attack : 540%, Defense: 521%, HP%: +482%, Total Buff: 1,543% Why : Strong defense and HP buffs make this a solid defensive pairing. Merlin + Algernon Sidney (Assistant) : Attack : 570%, Defense: 496%, HP%: +477%, Total Buff: 1,542% Why : A balanced offensive pairing with high march size. Marcus Agrippa + Ragnar (Assistant, F2P) : Attack : 596%, Defense: 511%, HP%: +414%, Total Buff: 1,521% Why : The best F2P pairing, combining Marcus’s accessibility with Ragnar’s elite buffs. F2P Focus: Marcus Agrippa and Trial of Knights For F2P players, Marcus Agrippa is a game-changer. Available in the Trial of Knights event, you can earn him by ascending generals like Elektra, a former F2P favorite. His 5-star buffs (Attack 446%, Total 1,191%) rival premium generals, making him a must-have. However, his long tenure in the event raises questions about his future availability. Another F2P option, Louis IX, is also in Trial of Knights but is less effective than Marcus. Tip : If you’re F2P, prioritize ascending generals during Trial of Knights to secure Marcus while he’s available. Pair him with Ragnar for maximum impact. Strategic Takeaways To dominate with ranged generals in Evony, keep these tips in mind: Prioritize Merlin : If you can afford Tavern refreshes, aim for Merlin for his unmatched total buffs. Leverage F2P Options : Marcus Agrippa is a top F2P choice, especially during Trial of Knights. Start ascending now, but monitor event changes. Optimal Pairings : Always pair generals with assistants like Ragnar or Sigurd to maximize buffs. Check the Tavern’s Portraits menu to recruit assistants. Spiritual Beast Condition : For Ragnar, ensure you equip a Spiritual Beast to unlock his full HP buff. Stay Updated : Watch for my upcoming video and website update on Brian Boru and Arthur Wellesley, as they may shake up the rankings. Packs can be purchased to help with collections Tips for Success To succeed, focus on : Claiming the free daily Uncommon pack to build your collection. Completing Silver sets before upgrading to Gold or Diamond for maximum benefits. Using high rarity cards and Composition Tickets strategically to reduce resource costs. The community has mixed feelings, with some seeing it as favoring paying players, which can impact free-to-play strategies. The civilization cards event in Evony, introduced on November 28, 2024, and accessible via the Art Hall, represents a significant addition to the game's mechanics, focusing on collectible cards that offer buffs and rewards. This feature, while not explicitly time-limited in recent updates as of March 17, 2025, operates as an ongoing system with regular engagement opportunities, potentially integrated into broader event cycles. The following sections provide a comprehensive breakdown of the event, exchange methods, and success strategies, drawing from multiple authoritative sources to ensure accuracy and depth. There are seven collections for the world stage Event Overview and Mechanics Civilization cards are virtual collectibles representing historical civilizations, each offering specific buff effects to enhance gameplay. Limited to one exchange oer day Cards are categorized by rarity (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, Epic) and material (Silver, Gold, Diamond), with higher levels offering stronger effects. Players can obtain cards through free daily Uncommon packs, available at server reset, and purchasable Rare packs using real money. Each pack contains 5 random cards, which can be revealed individually or all at once, adding an element of surprise and strategy to collection. Exchange Methods Exchanging cards in Evony involves two primary methods, catering to different player preferences and resource availability: Trading with Other Players : Accessed via the Card Exchange feature under [Civilization Cards] – [Card Exchange], players can list up to 3 cards for trade, with a daily limit of one trade. This system requires cards to be of the same rarity and quality, fostering a community-driven economy. This method is particularly useful for filling gaps in collections without relying on random pack openings. Composing Cards : This process allows upgrading cards to higher material levels, essential for unlocking stronger buffs. To compose, players need either 10 copies of the same card or 1 copy plus Composition Tickets. Composition Tickets are earned by demolishing duplicate cards, managed through filters by material, rarity, and series. For instance, composing a Silver card has a 90% chance to result in a Gold card and a 10% chance for a Diamond card, introducing an element of risk and reward. You can compose cards for a chance to win additional cards Strategies for Success Success in the civilization cards event, particularly for maximizing buffs and rewards, requires strategic planning, especially given community feedback highlighting disparities between free-to-play (F2P) and paying players. The following tips, derived from guides and community insights, offer a roadmap for effective engagement: Complete Silver Sets First : Prioritize completing sets with Silver cards before upgrading to Gold or Diamond. This ensures players maximize the benefits from lower material sets, as higher material upgrades require significant resources. For example, do not compose Silver cards to Gold until the Silver set is complete to avoid missing out on set bonuses. Claim Free Daily Pack : Ensure to claim the free Uncommon pack daily, as it provides a steady stream of cards without cost. This can be added to a daily checklist for consistency, enhancing collection without financial investment. Strategic Composition : Use Composition Tickets wisely to reduce the number of cards needed for composition. When composing, leverage the highest rarity cards to minimize ticket usage, as higher rarity cards count towards lower-rarity requirements, offering flexibility in resource management. Prioritize High Rarity Compositions : Focus on composing higher rarity cards to achieve better benefits with fewer resources. This strategy is particularly effective for F2P players, as it maximizes the value of limited Composition Tickets. Manage Duplicate Cards : Demolish duplicate cards to acquire Composition Tickets, which are crucial for composing higher material cards. Use filters to manage duplicates efficiently, focusing on material, rarity, and series to optimize ticket yield. The different types of cards that can be won in the event Earn cash playing games similar to Evony on your phone Considerations for Free-to-Play Players Given community discussions, such as those on Reddit, there is a perception that the civilization cards feature may favor paying players, widening the gap between F2P and coiners. For F2P players, success hinges on leveraging free resources effectively. Focus on completing as many sets as possible using free packs, participate in any in-game events or challenges that offer additional card packs or fragments, and engage in trading with other players to fill gaps in collections. This approach mitigates the resource disparity, ensuring F2P players can still benefit from the system's buffs and rewards. Community Perspectives and Controversies Community feedback, particularly from platforms like Reddit, reveals mixed sentiments. Some players view civilization cards as "no skill, click-and-collect coiner buffs," suggesting it may disproportionately benefit paying players, potentially alienating F2P audiences. Others compare it to trends in other games, like the Pokemon TCG mobile release, noting a homogenization of game mechanics. These perspectives highlight a controversy around accessibility and fairness, which players should consider when strategizing their approach. Additional buffs can be obtained for completing sets What the community of Evony players think There is some controversy amongst the community, with some players feeling the feature adds clutter rather than value to the game. This sentiment, while not directly impacting mechanics, influences player engagement and perception, particularly for F2P players who may find progression challenging without spending. In conclusion, the civilization cards event in Evony offers a rich system for enhancing gameplay through collectible cards, with robust exchange options and strategic tips for success. By leveraging free resources, prioritizing set completion, and engaging with the community, players can maximize their benefits, navigating the complexities and controversies to enjoy a rewarding experience. A Guide to the Civilization Card Event on Evony - Transcript Mastering Civilization Card Events in Evony : A Comprehensive Guide Hey everyone, Favian here from Empire Build Academy! Welcome back to my channel. Today, we’re diving into the Civilization Card Event in Evony, a feature that can be a bit tricky to navigate. I’ve made a few mistakes myself, so I’m excited to break it all down in this guide to help you master the event. Let’s get started! What Are Civilization Cards in Evony? The Civilization Card Event in Evony is a fun yet complex system that rewards you with buffs and rare items for collecting and managing cards across different regions. To get started, head to the Art Hall in-game and click on the Civilization Cards tab (the last one on the right). Once there, you’ll see seven regions: Europe, America, Japan, Korea, China, Russia, and Arabia. Each region has its own set of cards to collect, divided into Silver, Gold, and Diamond tiers, with increasing rarity and rewards. At the top, you’ll notice two event modes: Sun Icon : The standard event, always active. Moon Icon : The Star Pilgrimage, a limited-edition card release. Understanding the Card System Each region has specific tasks, like collecting a certain number of Silver, Gold, or Diamond cards. Completing these tasks grants buffs (e.g., +2% in-rally main troop attack) and rewards like rare packs. For example: Silver Cards (5/5 or 8/8) : Completing these sets unlocks buffs and rewards. Gold Cards (4/4 or 8/8) : Higher-tier rewards and buffs. Diamond Cards : The rarest, offering the best rewards but hardest to complete. You can view your progress for each region by clicking on it. For instance, in Europe, I’ve completed the 5/5 and 8/8 Silver sets and the 4/4 Gold set, earning buffs and rewards, but I’m still working on the 8/8 Gold and Diamond sets. Key Features of the Civilization Card Event The event interface has three main tabs: Card Box, Card Exchange, and Open Card Pack. Let’s break them down 1. Open Card Pack You get one free card daily, so don’t forget to claim it! Additional packs (limited or normal) can be purchased periodically, but at the time of recording, the Grade 8 event was listed as “coming soon.” Check back regularly, as new pack options may open throughout the year. 2. Card Box This tab shows all the cards you own, organized by rarity (Orange, Purple, Blue, Green, etc.). Here’s what you need to know : Composing Cards : You can combine 10 Silver cards of the same name to upgrade to a higher tier: 90% chance to get a Gold card. 10% chance to get a Diamond card. If you’re short on cards, you can use Composition Tickets to fill the gap. For example, composing a rarer card might cost 25 tickets, while a less rare one costs 12. Demolishing Cards: Recycle duplicate cards to earn Composition Tickets. The higher the card’s rarity, the more tickets you get (e.g., 200 for an Orange Silver card, 40 for Blue, 20 for Green). Only duplicates can be recycled, and the system automatically keeps your highest-quality card to avoid losing progress. Tip : Don’t demolish cards you still need for higher-tier sets (Gold or Diamond). Hold onto them until you’ve completed the set. 3. Card Exchange The Card Exchange is where you trade cards with other players to complete your sets. Here’s how it works: You can only trade cards of the same rarity and quality (e.g., Silver for Silver, Gold for Gold, Diamond for Diamond). To trade, go to the Card Exchange tab and select a card you want to request. Then, choose a card you’re willing to give up (you must have more than one copy). Example : I have 8/10 Silver Sangun cards and need two more. I can list a trade offering a Silver Court Lady (I have six) to request a Silver Sangun. If someone accepts, I’ll be one step closer to composing a Gold or Diamond Sangun. Listings : You have three slots to list trades. Choose strategically based on cards you’re close to completing or cards you have in excess. Alliance and Chat : If you can’t find a trade in the exchange, ask in your alliance, world chat, or whisper other players to arrange a trade. Tips for Success in the Civilization Card Event Claim Your Free Card Daily : It’s an easy way to build your collection over time. Prioritize Composing : Focus on completing sets of 10 Silver cards to compose Gold or Diamond versions. Use Composition Tickets wisely for cards you’re close to completing. Be Strategic with Trades : Only trade cards you have multiples of, and avoid trading away cards you need for your own sets. For example, I almost traded a Mount Fuji for a Grand Canyon but realized it wasn’t beneficial since I only had two Mount Fujis. Check Rarity and Quality : When trading or demolishing, ensure you’re working with the same rarity (e.g., Green, Blue) and quality (e.g., Silver, Gold). This avoids confusion and wasted trades. Don’t Rush Demolishing : Hold onto cards until you’re sure you don’t need them for higher-tier sets. Recycling lower-rarity cards (e.g., Green) gives fewer tickets (10-20), so it’s often better to trade them. Engage with Your Community : If you’re stuck, ask your alliance or check world chat for trade opportunities. Someone might have the exact card you need! Track Your Progress : Use the Shield Icon with the plus sign to see all active buffs from your completed sets. Common Mistakes to Avoid I’ve learned a few lessons the hard way, so here’s what to watch out for: Don’t Trade Blindly : Always check how many cards you have for a set before trading. Trading away a card you need for a buff can set you back. Don’t Demolish Needed Cards : If you’re close to completing a Gold or Diamond set, keep those Silver cards until you’re ready to compose. Understand Rarity vs. Quality : Rarity (e.g., Green, Blue) and quality (e.g., Silver, Gold) must match for trades. Mixing them up can lead to confusion. Final Thoughts The Civilization Card Event in Evony can seem overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a rewarding way to earn buffs and rare items. My biggest piece of advice? Take your time, plan your trades, and don’t be afraid to ask for help in the comments or your alliance. I’ll also update my Civilization Card guide with any corrections or suggestions from you all, so drop your feedback below! What’s your strategy for the Civilization Card Event? - Defense: Building a Resilient Keep on Evony
Defense Building a Resilient Keep on Evony Defense: Building a Resilient Keep on Evony The T1 Mounted trap keep is a proven defense—even an 800 million power keep can repel attacks from 5–10 billion power foes if built right. Here’s how to grow into one: Troop Limits: Cap Mounted troops above T4 at 5,000 per tier. For Siege, build enough to aid defense (e.g., 20,000 per tier, more for lower tiers, less for higher) without drawing attacks—over half a million Siege invites targeting. Siege softens enemy assaults by striking first, but keep it modest to avoid Siege counters. Core Troops: Focus on T1 Mounted, Ranged, and minimal Ground. Enemies’ Mounted or Ground troops engage your T1 Mounted “wall” without reaching your Ranged, due to range and movement dynamics. Enemy Ranged target your Mounted until they’re gone, sparing your Ranged unless Siege or counterattacks intervene (e.g., your Ranged firing back at enemy archers). Build layers: 50,000 Ranged, 5,000 Ground, and 10 million T1 Mounted per layer, repeating until you hit 500,000 Ranged, 50,000 Ground, and 100 million T1 Mounted. Then add 150 million T1 Mounted, 25 million T2, 10 million T3, and 5 million T4 Mounted. Boost your top two Ranged tiers for offense. Gear and Refines: Gear trumps all, but refines are king. Avoid Koryo gear—opt for Conquest Civ gear like Augustus Leg Armor (top pick) and Bourbon Bracers, emphasizing Ranged Attack debuffs and Mounted HP/Defense/Attack buffs. Refine with flat numbers, not percentages, on Mounted stats. For example, T1 Mounted base HP is 1,000. Max percentage refines (30% across 8 slots) yield 3,400 HP per troop; flat refines (2,000 per slot) reach 17,000 HP—a 13,600 HP gap per troop, ballooning to trillions with millions of troops. Defense Building a Resilient Keep on Evony Subcities and Generals: Prioritize Russian subcities for attack debuffs. Use accessible subcity Generals like Baldwin, Hojo, Mark Antony, and Andy Jackson (in that order) for Ranged/Siege debuffs; Cimon shines if you invest. Gear is irrelevant unless it’s their specific Staff/Robe—focus on stars, specialties, and Archer gear (e.g., Parth sets) with Ranged attack debuff rings. Wall Generals: Queen Boudica (Main) is ideal—accessible and easy to max at 10 stars. Equip her with Civ and Parth Archer gear. Your Assistant should be a top Mounted General with a 50% buff active anytime (not just “while attacking”). Gear doesn’t count, but Covenants and specialties do. Buffs and Misconceptions: Buffs and debuffs (18 sources total) are critical—boost Mounted stats and debuff enemy Ranged attack. Some claim percentages don’t matter for T1 trap keeps; they’re wrong. Flats dominate, but a 700% HP boost (achievable) adds 7,000 HP per troop, stacking with flats for even more resilience. Defence Building a Resilient Keep on Evony - Transcript Evony Tavern Recruitment Update : New Generals to Boost Your Empire Welcome back to the Empire Build Academy! I’m Favian, and today we’re diving into the latest Evony: The King’s Return Tavern Recruitment Update, introducing a host of new generals to enhance your gameplay. This update brings exciting opportunities to recruit powerful generals through the Tavern, each with unique buffs tailored to different troop types and strategies. In this blog post, we’ll break down the 13 new generals added, their stats, and how to strategically use them to strengthen your main city and battle performance. Let’s get started! Overview of the Tavern Recruitment Update The Tavern in Evony is a key feature for recruiting generals, and this update expands the roster with 13 new generals, available by refreshing the Tavern using gems. Each general offers specialized buffs, from boosting resource production to enhancing troop attack, defense, and HP. Recruiting can be gem-intensive, so plan carefully, especially if you’re a free-to-play (F2P) player. Below, we’ll explore each general’s abilities and strategic applications, with insights from my Empire Build Academy website, where I’ve detailed the update for easy reference. New Generals and Their Buffs Here’s a comprehensive look at the 13 generals added to the Tavern, organized by their primary roles and regions. These generals can be recruited by repeatedly refreshing the Tavern until they appear, so keep an eye on your gem reserves! Shajar al-Durr (Arabia, Main City Defense) Buffs : Increases main city resource production speed by 100% and food protected from troop upkeep by 200% when set as the Main City Defense General. Strategy : Shajar is best used as an assistant general rather than the main defense general. For example, I’ve paired her with my main defense general, Isaac Brock. During peaceful times, Shajar maximizes resource production, but swap her out for a combat-focused general (like Isaac) during events like Server War, Battle of Constantinople (BoC), or Battle of Gaugamela (BoG) to bolster defenses. Tip : Her resource buffs make her ideal for early-game players focusing on city development. George Dewey (America, Main City Defense) Buffs : Specific stats vary, but he enhances main city defense capabilities. Strategy : Review his stats in the Tavern’s Portraits menu (under America) to determine if he fits your defensive strategy. He’s a solid option for players needing a reliable defense general. Napoleon (Europe, Siege) Buffs : Increases troop attack by 10% and siege machine attack by 20% when leading an army to attack. Strategy : Note that this is the standard Napoleon, not Napoleon Prime. He’s best used as a siege general for offensive pushes, particularly in PvP or monster battles. Ensure he’s leading the army to activate his buffs. Alfred the Great (Europe, Ranged) Buffs : Increases ranged troop attack by 30% and siege machine attack by 20% when leading an army to attack. Strategy : A strong choice for ranged-focused players, Alfred boosts your archers significantly. Check his requirements to ensure his buffs activate, as some generals need specific conditions met. Thutmose III (Others, Ranged) Buffs : Increases ranged troop attack by 30% and ground troop HP by 25% when leading an army to attack. Strategy : Thutmose offers a balanced boost for ranged and ground troops, making him versatile for mixed armies. Evaluate his fit based on your troop composition. Henry V (Europe, Ranged) Buffs : Enhances ranged troop stats (specifics viewable in-game). Strategy : Another ranged specialist, Henry V is worth considering if you’re building an archer-heavy army. Compare his buffs to Thutmose III to decide which suits your playstyle. Saladin (Arabia, Ground) Buffs : Increases ground troop attack by 35%, defense by 15%, and HP by 15% when leading an army to attack. Strategy : Saladin is a “decent little ground general” for players lacking strong ground troop leaders. His balanced buffs make him a reliable choice for ground-focused attacks. George A. Custer (America, Mounted) Buffs : Enhances mounted troop stats (view in-game for details). Strategy : Custer is a solid pick for cavalry players. Check his stats in the Tavern’s Portraits menu to assess his value for your army. Murad IV (Others, Mounted) Buffs : Increases mounted troop attack by 40% and ground/mounted troop defense by 30% when leading an army to attack. Strategy : While not top-tier, Murad’s high attack and defense buffs make him a strong choice for cavalry-heavy players. Pair him with complementary generals for maximum impact. Edward III (Europe, Ranged) Buffs : Increases ranged troop and siege machine attack by 25% and ranged troop defense by 15%. Strategy : Edward III is a versatile ranged general, boosting both attack and defense. He’s a good fit for players balancing ranged and siege units. Zucca (Others, Siege) Buffs : Increases siege machine attack by 40% and ranged/siege machine HP by 35%. Strategy : Zucca’s impressive buffs make him a top-tier siege general, ideal for players focusing on siege-heavy strategies. His HP boost enhances army survivability. Tamar (Europe, Ground) Buffs : Increases ground troop attack by 35% and ground/mounted troop defense by 35%. Strategy : Tamar’s strong defensive buffs make her a great choice for ground-focused players looking to withstand enemy assaults. Charles (Europe, Ranged) Buffs : Increases ranged troop attack by 40%, march size by 10%, and ranged/siege machine defense by 10%. Strategy : Charles offers a robust package, boosting attack, march size, and defense. He’s a top pick for ranged players aiming to scale up their armies. John Churchill (America, Siege) Buffs : Increases siege machine attack by 30% and rally capacity by 12% when leading an army in Alliance War. Strategy : John Churchill is particularly valuable for me, as he pairs with Isaac Brock in a Covenant, unlocking additional buffs. His rally capacity boost is ideal for alliance-based PvP events like Server War. Be mindful of his specific condition (leading in Alliance War) to activate all buffs. Polyxena (Others, Mounted) Buffs : Increases ground/mounted troop attack by 40% and troop defense/HP by 25%. Strategy : Polyxena is a “very decent” cavalry general, offering strong offensive and defensive buffs. She’s a great addition for mounted-focused players. Aethelflaed (Europe, Ground) Buffs : Enhances ground troop stats (view in-game for details). Strategy : Aethelflaed rounds out the update as a solid ground general. Check her stats to determine if she fits your ground troop strategy. Strategic Tips for Tavern Recruitment Recruiting these generals requires refreshing the Tavern’s Portraits menu (under Recruit > Portraits) using gems until your desired general appears. Here are some tips to optimize your recruitment: Gem Management : Refreshing can be costly, so F2P players should save gems for high-value generals like John Churchill (for Covenants) or Zucca (for siege buffs). I recently recruited John of Portugal as an Archer Camp Officer to ascend him to five stars, showing how targeted recruitment can pay off. General Roles : Pay attention to each general’s conditions (e.g., “when leading the army to attack” or “in Alliance War”). For example, Shajar al-Durr excels as an assistant for resource production but should be swapped out during combat events. Covenants : Pair generals like John Churchill with existing ones (e.g., Isaac Brock) to unlock Covenant bonuses, significantly boosting your main city defense or attack capabilities. Tavern Navigation : Use the Tavern’s filters (e.g., Arabia, Europe, America, Others) to locate specific generals. For instance, Shajar is under Arabia, while Napoleon is in Europe. Community Feedback and Your Goals This update offers something for every playstyle, whether you’re a F2P player grinding for generals or a spender aiming to complete Covenants. I’m personally focused on recruiting John Churchill to enhance my Isaac Brock Covenant, but I’d love to hear from you! In the comments, let me know: Which generals are you targeting? Algernon Sidney or Merlin | Who do you use? Key Points Both Algernon Sidney and Merlin are top-tier ranged generals in Evony, with similar strengths but slight differences in buffs. Research suggests Merlin is often preferred for his higher HP buff (45%) on ranged troops, which can improve survivability, while Sidney offers higher defense (45%) for ranged troops, useful in prolonged battles. The choice depends on your strategy: Merlin for HP-focused play, Sidney for defense-focused play; both are viable with no clear consensus. Both Algernon Sidney and Merlin are excellent ranged generals in Evony, and the choice between them depends on your gameplay strategy. Here's a breakdown to help you decide: Overview Algernon Sidney boosts ranged troops' attack and defense by 45% and their HP, along with siege machines' HP, by 30% when leading an attack. This makes him great for players who want their ranged troops to have strong defense, especially in longer battles. Merlin increases ranged troops' attack and HP by 45% and their defense, along with siege machines' defense, by 30% when leading an attack. He's ideal if you prioritize higher HP for ranged troops to withstand damage, which is crucial for their survivability. Key Differences For ranged troops, Sidney gives more defense (45% vs. 30% from Merlin), while Merlin gives more HP (45% vs. 30% from Sidney). This means Merlin might help your troops last longer in fights, while Sidney makes them harder to damage in the first place. For siege machines, Sidney boosts HP by 30%, while Merlin boosts defense by 30%, which could be better depending on whether you need them to survive longer or resist attacks better. Their ascending attributes (upgrades as they level up) are very similar, so the main decision comes down to their special skills. You might not expect this, but both generals can be used as assistants for each other in certain setups, like covenants, which adds flexibility to how you build your army. For example, Sidney can pair with Merlin for specific synergies, according to guides like Theria Games . Recommendation If you're focusing on keeping your ranged troops alive longer, especially in quick, damage-heavy battles, I'd lean toward Merlin for his higher HP buff. But if you expect prolonged engagements where defense matters more, Sidney could be your pick. Both are top choices, and community discussions, like on Reddit , show players swapping between them based on needs, so there's no wrong choice here. Background and Context Evony is a real-time strategy MMO where players build empires, train troops, and engage in battles, with generals playing a pivotal role in leading armies. Generals like Algernon Sidney and Merlin are categorized as ranged PvP generals, excelling in leading ranged troops and siege machines during attacks. Their effectiveness is determined by special skills, ascending attributes, and potential synergies through covenants or assistant roles. Both generals were introduced relatively recently: Merlin during the 2024 Children's Day Event (around June 2024) and Algernon Sidney during the 2024 Halloween events (around October 2024), according to guides like One Chilled Gamer and Yaoqiguo . This recency means both are accessible to current players, but their acquisition methods (events or tavern recruitment) may influence availability. Special Skills Comparisony The core difference lies in their special skills, which are active when leading an attack: Algernon Sidney's Special Skill (Patriot’s Radiance): Increases ranged troops' attack and defense by 45%. Increases ranged troops and siege machines' HP by 30%. This translates to ranged troops receiving: Attack +45%, Defense +45%, HP +30%. Siege machines receive: HP +30%. Merlin's Special Skill (Weaving the Fate): Increases ranged troops' attack and HP by 45%. Increases ranged troops and siege machines' defense by 30%. This translates to ranged troops receiving: Attack +45%, HP +45%, Defense +30%. Siege machines receive: Defense +30%. Table 1 : Special Skill Buffs Comparison General Ranged Troop Attack Ranged Troop Defense Ranged Troop HP Siege Machine Buff Algernon Sidney +45% +45% +30% HP +30% Merlin +45% +30% +45% Defense +30% From this, it's clear that for ranged troops, Sidney offers higher defense (45% vs. 30%), while Merlin offers higher HP (45% vs. 30%). For siege machines, Sidney boosts HP, while Merlin boosts defense, which could be strategic depending on whether you need them to survive longer or resist damage better. Ascending Attributes Both generals can be ascended to enhance their abilities, and their ascending attributes are nearly identical, suggesting minimal difference in leveling up: Algernon Sidney's Ascending Attributes (from One Chilled Gamer ): 1 Star: Marching Ranged Troop Attack +25%, Defense +10% 2 Star: Marching Troop Death into Wounded Rate +8% 3 Star: Marching Ranged Troop Attack +15%, Defense and HP +15% 4 Star: Marching Ranged Troop and Siege Machine Defense +15% and HP +15% 5 Star: Marching Ranged Troop Attack +20%, Defense and HP +20% Merlin's Ascending Attributes (from One Chilled Gamer ): 1 Star: Marching Ranged Troop Attack +25%, Defense +10% 2 Star: Marching Troop Death into Wounded Rate +8% 3 Star: Marching Ranged Troop Attack, Defense, and HP +15% 4 Star: Marching Ranged Troop and Siege Machine Defense and HP +15% 5 Star: Marching Ranged Troop Attack, Defense, and HP +20% Table 2 : Ascending Attributes Comparison (Key Levels) Level Algernon Sidney Buffs Merlin Buffs 1 Star Ranged Attack +25%, Defense +10% Ranged Attack +25%, Defense +10% 2 Star Death into Wounded Rate +8% Death into Wounded Rate +8% 3 Star Ranged Attack +15%, Defense +15%, HP +15% Ranged Attack +15%, Defense +15%, HP +15% 4 Star Ranged & Siege Defense +15%, HP +15% Ranged & Siege Defense +15%, HP +15% 5 Star Ranged Attack +20%, Defense +20%, HP +20% Ranged Attack +20%, Defense +20%, HP +20% The attributes are identical, indicating that the decision hinges on their special skills rather than ascending bonuses. Strategic Implications The choice between Sidney and Merlin depends on your army composition and playstyle: If You Prioritize Ranged Troops' Defense : Sidney's 45% defense buff compared to Merlin's 30% could be crucial in scenarios where ranged troops face prolonged engagement or heavy retaliation. This might be useful in defending against enemy counter-attacks or in battles where your ranged troops are exposed. If You Prioritize Ranged Troops' HP : Merlin's 45% HP buff compared to Sidney's 30% enhances survivability, which is often more critical for ranged troops to withstand initial damage, especially in quick, high-damage encounters. This could be advantageous in offensive rallies or monster hunting where troops need to last longer. Siege Machine Considerations : If your strategy includes siege machines, Sidney's HP boost (30%) might help them survive longer under fire, while Merlin's defense boost (30%) could make them more resistant to damage, depending on whether you face attacks that reduce HP or penetrate defense. Community discussions, such as on Reddit , show players using both generals, with some planning to swap from Merlin to Sidney for additional march size increases or other synergies. For instance, one user mentioned using Merlin as an assistant with Elektra and planning to switch to Sidney, suggesting Sidney might offer slight advantages in certain setups ( Reddit post ). Covenants and Assistant Roles Both generals can be used in assistant roles, and their compatibility with other generals is notable. For example, Sidney's covenant includes Merlin as an applicable general, according to Theria Games , meaning they can pair for synergies. Merlin's covenant includes generals like King Arthur and Alfred the Great, which might offer different strategic options ( Theria Games ). This flexibility adds an unexpected layer, as players can mix and match them in main and assistant roles, enhancing overall army buffs. Community Preferences and Tier Lists Tier lists, such as One Chilled Gamer's Evony Ranged General Tier List , place both in the top tier alongside generals like Ragnar and Brian Boru, with no clear ranking between them. This suggests a lack of consensus, and player choice often depends on personal strategy rather than a definitive "best" general. The recency of both (Merlin from June 2024, Sidney from October 2024) means newer players might lean toward Sidney, while older players might have Merlin ascended, influencing usage. Recommendation Given the analysis, if you focus on keeping your ranged troops alive longer in battles, especially in quick, damage-heavy scenarios, Merlin's higher HP buff (45% vs. 30%) is likely more beneficial. This aligns with the general strategy for ranged units, where survivability through HP is often more critical than defense. However, if you anticipate prolonged engagements where defense matters, Sidney's higher defense buff (45% vs. 30%) could be advantageous. For siege machines, Merlin's defense boost might be preferable if they face attacks that test their resistance, while Sidney's HP boost could help them endure longer. Ultimately, both are excellent choices, and the decision should align with your specific army composition and playstyle. Given the slight edge in HP for ranged troops, which is often more valuable in ranged warfare, Merlin seems the preferred choice for many players, especially in offensive strategies. Conclusion This detailed comparison highlights that Algernon Sidney and Merlin are both top-tier ranged generals, with the choice boiling down to whether you prioritize defense (Sidney) or HP (Merlin) for ranged troops, and how you utilize siege machines. Community discussions and tier lists show no clear winner, reinforcing that both are viable, and player preference plays a significant role.
