Jumong – “The founding monarch of Goguryeo, the northernmost of the Three Kingdoms of Korea.”
Jumong Evony Guide 2026
Jumong is an older Ranged PvP General in Evony: The King's Return.
He is best suited to:
• Ranged PvP
• early and mid-game Ranged marches
• secondary Ranged marches
• F2P and low-spend accounts
• players who already have him developed
His biggest strengths are:
• solid Ranged Troop Attack
• useful March Size
• Ranged Defense and HP through Ascension
• Enemy Troop HP reduction
• Enemy Wounded into Death pressure
• Tavern accessibility
• simple Skill Book setup
Jumong should primarily be built around Ranged Troops.
Is Jumong Good in Evony?
Yes, but mainly as an accessible older Ranged option.
Jumong's Special Skill provides:
• Ranged Troop Attack +35%
when he is leading the army.
This is always active.
There is no attacking-only condition and no Dragon requirement.
That makes Jumong very easy to use.
However, modern Ranged Generals now provide much larger total buff packages.
Jumong Best Role
Best Role: Ranged PvP
Also Good For:
• secondary Ranged marches
• early-game PvP
• low-spend progression
• Tavern-based development
Avoid Using For:
• Ground PvP
• Mounted PvP
• Siege PvP
• Monster Hunting as a primary role
• Main City Defense
• Subordinate City Mayor
Ranged is clearly Jumong's strongest troop type.
Jumong Special Skill
Jumong's Special Skill is:
Combative
When Jumong is leading the army:
• Ranged Troop Attack +35%
This skill requires no development.
That gives Jumong immediate value as soon as he is recruited.
Jumong Ascension
Ascending Jumong improves his Ranged damage, survivability and March Size.
1 Star
• Ranged Troop Attack +15%
This immediately improves his main role.
2 Stars
When Jumong is leading the army to attack:
• Troop Death into Wounded Rate +8%
This reduces some permanent troop losses during offensive PvP.
3 Stars
• March Size Capacity +10%
This is one of Jumong's most useful Ascension upgrades.
A larger march improves:
• total damage
• total survivability
• overall battlefield pressure
4 Stars
• Ranged Troop Defense +15%
• Ranged Troop HP +15%
This improves his durability.
5 Stars
• Ranged Troop Attack +10%
• Ranged Troop Defense +10%
• Ranged Troop HP +10%
The fifth star gives another balanced Ranged increase.
Jumong Specialties
Jumong has four Specialties.
Ranged Troop Assault
• Ranged Troop Attack +10%
• Ranged Troop HP +10%
This directly supports his primary role.
Suppress
• Enemy Troop HP -10%
This is a useful broad debuff.
It reduces the HP of:
• Ground Troops
• Mounted Troops
• Ranged Troops
• Siege Machines
King's Ambition
• Troop Death into Troop Soul Rate in the Main City +10%
This is a niche defensive effect.
It is not the main reason to develop Jumong.
King of Goguryeo
• Ranged Troop Attack +16%
• Ranged Troop Defense +16%
• Enemy Wounded into Death Rate +6% when attacking
King of Goguryeo is Jumong's strongest Specialty.
It adds both:
• Ranged combat power
• extra offensive casualty pressure
How Much Ranged Attack Can Jumong Add?
Jumong gains Ranged Attack from:
• Combative: +35%
• 1-Star Ascension: +15%
• 5-Star Ascension: +10%
• Ranged Troop Assault: +10%
• King of Goguryeo: +16%
That gives:
86% Ranged Troop Attack
from his own fully developed kit.
This is before Skill Books, equipment and account-wide systems.
How Much Ranged Defense Can Jumong Add?
Jumong gains:
• Ranged Defense +15% at 4-Star
• Ranged Defense +10% at 5-Star
• King of Goguryeo +16%
That gives:
41% Ranged Troop Defense
from his developed kit.
How Much Ranged HP Can Jumong Add?
Jumong gains:
• Ranged HP +15% at 4-Star
• Ranged HP +10% at 5-Star
• Ranged Troop Assault +10%
That gives:
35% Ranged Troop HP
from his developed kit.
How Much Native March Size Does Jumong Get?
Jumong gains:
• March Size +10% from 3-Star Ascension
If you also use a Lv4 March Size Skill Book:
• March Size +12%
his personal contribution becomes:
22% March Size
before other account systems are included.
Jumong and Enemy HP Debuffing
Suppress provides:
• Enemy Troop HP -10%
This is a broad debuff.
It adds a useful secondary layer to Jumong's otherwise simple Ranged-focused kit.
Jumong and Enemy Wounded into Death
King of Goguryeo adds:
• Enemy Wounded into Death +6% when attacking
This makes successful attacks slightly more punishing.
Part of the defender's wounded troops can become permanent losses instead.
Best Skill Books for Jumong
There is one important limitation:
Jumong's Special Skill already provides Ranged Attack.
Because fixed skills and equivalent Skill Books can conflict, always verify compatibility in-game before adding a normal Ranged Attack Skill Book.
A safe Ranged setup is:
• Lv4 Ranged Troop HP
• Lv4 Ranged Troop Range Bonus
• Lv4 March Size
This improves:
• survivability
• engagement range
• troop volume
Alternative Ranged Build
You can also use:
• Lv4 Ranged Troop Defense
• Lv4 Ranged Troop Range Bonus
• Lv4 March Size
This leans further into durability.
Why Ranged Range Bonus Matters
Ranged Troops rely heavily on attacking from distance.
Ranged Troop Range Bonus allows them to begin dealing damage earlier.
This is especially useful against Mounted-heavy opponents.
Jumong for Ranged PvP
Ranged PvP is Jumong's correct role.
His developed kit provides:
• Ranged Attack
• Ranged Defense
• Ranged HP
• March Size
• Enemy HP reduction
• Wounded-to-Death pressure
This is enough to make him useful in early and mid-game PvP.
Jumong Against Mounted Troops
Ranged Troops naturally perform well against Mounted-heavy formations.
Jumong's Ranged Attack makes him useful in that matchup.
Suppress also reduces:
• Enemy Mounted HP
as part of its broad Enemy HP reduction.
Jumong Against Ground Troops
Ground Troops are a much less comfortable matchup for Ranged.
Jumong does not have strong anti-Ground-specific debuffs.
Scout carefully before committing a large Ranged march against Ground-heavy formations.
Jumong for Main City Defense
Jumong's base skill is always active, so he can technically provide Ranged Attack while defending.
However, he lacks modern Wall-specific:
• In-City buffs
• broad defensive debuffs
• Hospital Capacity
• multi-troop support
Use a dedicated Main City Defense General instead.
Jumong for Monster Hunting
Jumong should not normally be used as a primary Monster Hunter.
His kit is built around:
• Ranged combat
• PvP
• Ranged survivability
Mounted Troops are generally more effective for Monster Hunting.
Use a dedicated Monster General instead.
Best Assistant Generals for Jumong
Jumong works best with an Assistant that adds:
• Ranged Attack
• Ranged Defense
• Ranged HP
• March Size
• attacking buffs
without disabling Combative.
Because Jumong is an older General, it is usually better to pair him with a stronger modern Ranged Assistant rather than over-investing in Jumong himself.
Always test compatibility in-game first.
Equipment and Refines
For Ranged PvP, prioritise percentage-based Ranged refines.
Bow
• Ranged Troop Attack % x4
Ring
• Ranged Troop Attack % x4
Armor
• Ranged Troop Defense % x4
Boots
• Ranged Troop Defense % x4
Helmet
• Ranged Troop HP % x4
Leg Armor
• Ranged Troop HP % x4
This gives Jumong a balanced Ranged build.
Is Jumong Still Relevant in 2026?
Yes, but only as an accessible older Ranged General.
Jumong still provides:
• useful Ranged Attack
• solid March Size
• some Ranged survivability
• Enemy HP reduction
• Tavern accessibility
However, modern Ranged Generals now provide:
• much higher Attack
• better Defense and HP
• larger March Size
• Covenants
• Skins
• stronger enemy debuffs
• more advanced scaling
That limits Jumong's endgame ceiling.
Is Jumong F2P Friendly?
Yes.
Jumong is available from the Tavern.
Current sources list his cost at:
• 28,500,000 Gold
That makes him easy for F2P and low-spend players to obtain.
It also gives players a realistic route to obtain duplicate copies for Ascension.
How to Obtain Jumong
Jumong can be recruited from the Tavern.
Current sources list his cost at:
• 28,500,000 Gold
This makes him one of the more accessible Ranged Generals.
Is Jumong Worth Ascending?
Potentially, but only if you still actively use him.
His Ascension adds:
• Ranged Attack
• Ranged Defense
• Ranged HP
• March Size +10%
• Troop Death into Wounded support
These are useful upgrades.
However, Blood of Ares is valuable.
Do not heavily Ascend Jumong from zero if stronger modern Ranged Generals are already available to you.
Is Jumong Worth Specialties?
Usually not as a high priority.
King of Goguryeo adds:
• Ranged Attack +16%
• Ranged Defense +16%
• Enemy Wounded into Death +6%
while his other Specialties add:
• Ranged Attack
• Ranged HP
• Enemy HP reduction
These are useful effects.
But Runestones are expensive.
Modern Ranged Generals usually offer a better long-term return.
Is Jumong Worth Investing In?
Jumong is worth investing in if:
• you are early or mid-game
• you are F2P or low-spend
• you need a Tavern-accessible Ranged General
• you already have him partly developed
• you need a secondary Ranged march
He is less attractive if:
• you already own stronger modern Ranged Generals
• you are building a fresh endgame Ranged march
• Blood of Ares is limited
• Runestones are limited
• premium or event Generals are realistic for your account
TEBA 2026 Reality Check
Jumong is simple.
That is both his strength and his weakness.
His fully developed personal Ranged package can provide approximately:
• Ranged Attack +86%
• Ranged Defense +41%
• Ranged HP +35%
• March Size +10%
• Enemy Troop HP -10%
• Enemy Wounded into Death +6%
before Skill Books and equipment.
Those numbers are perfectly usable for a Tavern General.
But they are far behind modern endgame Ranged Generals.
Jumong is therefore best used as:
• an early Ranged Main
• a secondary Ranged General
• a temporary progression option
rather than a major long-term premium investment.
TEBA Verdict
Jumong is an accessible older Ranged PvP General.
His base Special Skill provides:
• Ranged Attack +35%
whenever he leads.
His Ascension then adds:
• more Ranged Attack
• Ranged Defense
• Ranged HP
• March Size +10%
• Troop Death into Wounded support
while his Specialties add:
• more Ranged Attack
• more Ranged Defense
• Ranged HP
• Enemy Troop HP reduction
• Enemy Wounded into Death pressure
His biggest strengths are:
• Tavern accessibility
• simple Ranged-focused build
• useful March Size
• decent early and mid-game damage
• realistic F2P Ascension
His biggest weaknesses are:
• low modern combat ceiling
• modest Defense and HP
• no major modern scaling system
• far stronger Ranged Generals now existing
For F2P and low-spend players, Jumong remains a practical early or secondary Ranged General in 2026.
For established accounts, he is better treated as a reserve or collection General rather than a fresh endgame investment.
