Ragnar – “Viking leader and the most famous Norse hero in history.”
Ragnar Evony Guide 2026
Ragnar is a powerful Ranged Troop General in Evony: The King's Return.
He is best suited to:
• Ranged PvP
• Ranged rallies
• large offensive Ranged marches
• high-damage attack builds
His biggest strengths are:
• very high Ranged Attack
• strong Ranged Defense
• strong Ranged HP
• good March Size
• Covenant bonuses
• exclusive Skin bonuses
• strong late-game scaling
Ragnar should primarily be built as an attacking Ranged General.
Is Ragnar Good in Evony?
Yes.
Ragnar is a very strong Ranged PvP General.
His Special Skill provides:
• Ranged Troop Attack +45%
• Ranged Troop Defense +45%
when he is leading the army to attack.
He also provides:
• Ranged Troop HP +35%
• Siege Machine HP +35%
when he brings any Dragon or Spiritual Beast to attack.
That gives him a strong mix of Ranged damage and survivability.
Ragnar Best Role
Best Role: Ranged PvP
Also Good For: Ranged Rallies
Avoid Using For: Passive Main City Defense or dedicated Siege PvP
Ragnar should primarily be built around Ranged Troops.
His Siege HP bonus is useful secondary support, but his overall identity is clearly Ranged.
Ragnar Special Skill
Ragnar's Special Skill is:
Unstoppable Force
Increases Ranged Troops' Attack and Defense by 45% when General is leading the army to attack.
Also increases Ranged Troops' and Siege Machines' HP by 35% when General brings any Dragon or Spiritual Beast to attack.
There are two important conditions:
• the Attack and Defense portion requires Ragnar to be attacking
• the HP portion requires a Dragon or Spiritual Beast
That makes Ragnar a dedicated offensive Ranged General.
Ragnar Ascension
Ascending Ragnar significantly strengthens his Ranged march.
1 Star
• Marching Ranged Troop Attack +15%
• Marching Ranged Troop Defense +10%
2 Stars
• Marching Troop Death into Wounded Rate +8%
3 Stars
• March Size Capacity +8%
• Attacking Ranged Troop HP +10%
4 Stars
• Marching Ranged Troop Attack +10%
• Marching Ranged Troop Defense +10%
• Marching Ranged Troop HP +10%
5 Stars
• Marching Ranged Troop Attack +35%
• Marching Ranged Troop Defense +20%
• Marching Ranged Troop HP +20%
The fifth star is particularly strong.
It adds a large block of Ranged Attack, Defense and HP and reinforces Ragnar's role as a high-end offensive Ranged leader.
Ragnar Specialties
Ragnar has four Ranged-focused Specialties.
Ranged Troop Formation
• Ranged Troop Attack +10%
• Ranged Troop Defense +10%
Siege
• March Size Capacity +6%
• Attacking Siege Machine Attack +10%
• Attacking Ranged Troop Attack +10%
Ranged Troop Ares
• Ranged Troop Attack +10%
• Ranged Troop HP +10%
• Ranged Troop Defense +10%
Viking Leader
• Marching Ranged Troop Attack +45%
• Marching Ranged Troop Defense +25%
• Marching Ranged Troop HP +25%
Viking Leader is the standout Specialty.
It adds another huge block of Ranged Attack, Defense and HP and pushes Ragnar's late-game ceiling much higher.
Ragnar Covenant
Ragnar can establish a Covenant with:
• Sigurd
• Harald
• Cnut the Great
His Covenant adds additional Ranged and utility bonuses.
War Covenant
• Marching Ranged Troop Attack +5%
Cooperation Covenant
• March Speed +10%
Peace Covenant
• Ranged Troop Training Capacity +10%
Faith Covenant
• Marching Ranged Troop Defense +5%
• In-Rally Ranged Troop Attack +10%
Honor Covenant
• Marching Ranged Troop HP +10%
Civilization Covenant
• Marching Ranged Troop Attack +5%
• Marching Ranged Troop Defense +5%
The in-rally Ranged Attack bonus is particularly useful for players who regularly participate in or lead Ranged rallies.
Ragnar Skin
Ragnar has an exclusive Skin:
King of Midgard
The Skin provides:
• Marching Ranged Troop Attack +10%
• Enemy Ground Troop Defense -10%
• Enemy Mounted Troop Defense -10%
This adds more offensive power while also weakening two common enemy troop types.
Best Skill Books for Ragnar
Ragnar works well with the standard Ranged Skill Books.
A strong Ranged PvP setup is:
• Lv4 Ranged Troop Attack
• Lv4 Ranged Troop Range Bonus
• Lv4 March Size
This gives him:
• more raw Ranged damage
• better engagement range
• more troops per march
Another strong option is:
• Lv4 Ranged Troop Attack
• Lv4 Ranged Troop HP
• Lv4 Ranged Troop Range Bonus
if you want additional survivability.
Best Assistant Generals for Ragnar
Current TEBA pairing data includes:
• Brian Boru
• Sigurd
• Franz Joseph I
These are all strong Ranged-focused options where compatibility remains active.
The best Assistant should ideally add:
• Ranged Attack
• Ranged HP
• Ranged Defense
• March Size
• useful attacking buffs
without disabling Unstoppable Force.
Always test the exact pairing in-game before committing expensive resources.
Ragnar + Brian Boru
Brian Boru is one of Ragnar's strongest natural partners.
He adds:
• very high Ranged Attack
• strong Ranged HP
• additional Ranged and Siege Defense with a Dragon or Spiritual Beast
This creates a very strong offensive Ranged pairing.
Ragnar + Sigurd
Sigurd is another excellent Ranged partner.
His more flexible always-active core buffs can complement Ragnar's attack-focused profile.
Ragnar + Franz Joseph I
Franz Joseph I provides:
• high Ranged Attack
• strong Ranged Defense
• strong Ranged HP
and works well alongside Ragnar where both Special Skills remain active.
Dragon or Spiritual Beast Requirement
A Dragon or Spiritual Beast is important for Ragnar.
Without one, Ragnar still receives:
• Ranged Attack +45%
• Ranged Defense +45%
while attacking.
However, he loses the additional:
• Ranged Troop HP +35%
• Siege Machine HP +35%
from Unstoppable Force.
That is a meaningful loss in survivability.
If Ragnar is your Main General, he should normally carry a suitable Dragon or Spiritual Beast.
Equipment and Refines
For Ranged PvP, prioritise percentage-based Ranged refines.
A standard setup is:
Bow
• Ranged Troop Attack % x4
Ring
• Ranged Troop Attack % x4
Armor
• Ranged Troop Defense % x4
Boots
• Ranged Troop Defense % x4
Helmet
• Ranged Troop HP % x4
Leg Armor
• Ranged Troop HP % x4
For high-tier Ranged marches, percentage refines are generally preferred over flat refines.
Ragnar for Ranged PvP
Ranged PvP is Ragnar's strongest role.
His kit provides:
• very high Ranged Attack
• strong Ranged Defense
• strong Ranged HP
• useful March Size
• strong Covenant bonuses
• exclusive Skin bonuses
• excellent late-game scaling
Ranged Troops are especially effective against Mounted-heavy enemy formations.
However, they can struggle badly against strong Ground marches.
Scout first and use the correct matchup.
Ragnar and Siege Machines
Ragnar provides some secondary Siege support.
His Special Skill can give:
• Siege Machine HP +35%
when he attacks with a Dragon or Spiritual Beast.
His Siege Specialty also adds:
• Attacking Siege Machine Attack +10%
However, he should not be treated as a dedicated Siege General.
His strongest offensive scaling is overwhelmingly focused on Ranged Troops.
Treat Siege buffs as secondary utility.
How Much March Size Does Ragnar Get?
Ragnar gains:
• March Size +8% from 3-Star Ascension
• March Size +6% from the Siege Specialty
That gives him:
14% March Size
before a March Size Skill Book or other account systems are added.
This is a useful bonus for a Ranged Main General.
Ragnar on Defense
Ragnar is not a good choice for passive Main City Defense.
The reason is simple:
his base Attack and Defense buffs require him to be attacking.
His HP bonus also requires a Dragon or Spiritual Beast while attacking.
That means a substantial amount of his strength disappears on passive defense.
Use a dedicated Wall General instead.
Is Ragnar Still Relevant in 2026?
Yes.
Newer Ranged Generals have continued to appear, so Ragnar should not automatically be treated as the strongest Ranged General in the game.
However, he remains highly competitive because:
• his Ranged Attack ceiling is excellent
• his Defense and HP are strong
• he has native March Size
• his Covenant adds further buffs
• his Skin adds more attacking value
• he has strong Assistant compatibility
For players who already have him developed, Ragnar remains a serious offensive Ranged option.
Is Ragnar Worth Ascending?
Yes, if Ranged PvP is one of your main combat styles.
His Ascension adds:
• more Ranged Attack
• more Ranged Defense
• more Ranged HP
• March Size
The fifth star is especially powerful.
The main question is whether you can realistically obtain enough fragments to complete him.
Is Ragnar Worth Investing In?
Ragnar is worth investing in if:
• Ranged PvP is one of your main troop types
• you can obtain enough copies to Ascend him
• you have a suitable Dragon or Spiritual Beast
• you value high offensive Ranged buffs
• you have a strong compatible Assistant
• you can make meaningful Covenant progress
• you own or can obtain his King of Midgard Skin
He is less attractive if:
• you already have a stronger fully developed modern Ranged pair
• you cannot Ascend him meaningfully
• you need a General primarily for defense
• you do not have a suitable Dragon or Spiritual Beast
• your premium resources are needed elsewhere
TEBA Verdict
Ragnar is a powerful offensive Ranged PvP General.
His base Special Skill gives:
• Ranged Attack +45%
• Ranged Defense +45%
and, when attacking with a Dragon or Spiritual Beast:
• Ranged HP +35%
• Siege HP +35%
His Ascension, Viking Leader Specialty, Covenant and King of Midgard Skin push his offensive ceiling significantly higher.
His biggest weakness is that most of his strongest value is tied to attacking.
For players committed to offensive Ranged PvP, Ragnar remains a very strong Main or Assistant General in 2026.
